By searching through trusted media sites and corporate websites, announcements of investments in life science tools and services were found. The next step was to find more information about these investments by using Chrunchbase and corporate press releases in order to compile the list.

1. Novo Ventures: Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Novo Ventures describe themselves as "one of the most active life science venture capital investors in the world." They have invested in more than 40 life science tools and services companies, of which the most recent were Tioma Therapeutics, PanOptica, and Galera Therapeutics.

2. Canaan Partners: Canaan Partners make investments in technology and healthcare companies. They are based in San Fransisco and New York and some of their investments include Advanced BioHealing and Antiva Biosciences. As recently as this month, they invested in Iterum Therapeutics.

3. TPG Biotech: Based in San Fransisco, TPG Biotech is a venture capital firm that invests in growth-stage equity and venture investment in the biotechnology industry. The sub-sectors they focus on are therapeutics, medical devices, and healthcare services.

4. Accelerator Corporation: Based in Seattle, Accelerator is described as a "biotechnology investment and management company." They focus on investment in and management of emerging biotechnology companies. In 2016 they invested in Apogen Biotechnologies.

5. Clarus Ventures: This Cambridge, Massachusetts-based venture capital firm focused on investments in the healthcare sector. Some of their investments include Cleave Biosciences, Annexon Biosciences, and Entasis Therapeutics.

PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

1. GTCR: In 2014, this Chicago-based private equity firm embarked on a strategy of building a market leading healthcare business through the acquisition of companies and products in the diagnostics and life sciences industry. This is done through Maravai LifeSciences, a management partnership with Carl Hull. A notable investment was their 2016 investment in Vector Laboratories, a provider of life science products, which include labeling and detection reagents to help medical and scientific researchers visualize cells in experiments.

2. Mainsail Partners: Based in San Fransisco, Mainsail invested in Novus Biologicals, a provider of antibodies, peptides, proteins and other reagents for life science research in 2008 and again in 2017, invested in PeraHealth, a provider of predictive, real-time clinical surveillance solutions.

3. DRI Capital: Originally called Drug Royalty Corporation, DRI Capital, based in Toronto, was founded in 1992 with the purpose of acquiring royalty streams on pharmaceutical products and healthcare equity investments. Their investment focus is "on products that treat chronic, critical and/or rare diseases and which improve the health and quality of a patient’s life."

4. BroadOak Capital Partners: Based in Washington and San Fransisco, Broadoak describes themselves as the "Investment bankers for the Life Sciences Industry." Broadoak is a privately held investment bank that focuses primarily on the life sciences industry. Some of their investments include Akron Biotech, Bionex Solutions, MedCision and Distributed Bio.

5. Cathay Capital Private Equity: Cathay is an international private equity firm, headquartered in Paris, who made a major investment in OriGene Technologies in 2014. OriGene develops biological reagents for research laboratories, diagnostic companies, clinics, and hospitals. At the time, Mingpo Cai, President of Cathay Capital Private Equity, said: “Cathay Capital has developed a strong expertise within the health sector, a market segment which enjoys a promising growth outlook in our view." Their investments also include Echosens who specializes in non-invasive diagnostic products and services for hepatology and Minafin, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products.
