Top Business Publications in the United States

Atlanta Business Chronicle, Puget Sound Business Journal, Houston Business Journal, St. Louis Business Journal, Denver Business Journal, Washington Business Journal, Boston Business Journal, Dallas Business Journal, San Fransisco Business Times, Phoenix Business Journal, and Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journals are the top 11 business publications in the United States by the number of subscribers.

RESEARCH STRATEGY

To determine the top business publications in the United States, we began by scouring industry sites such as Bloomberg and 'All You Can Read' among others to identify any existing lists. We found lists that covered more of the National Business Publications such as Forbes, Fortune, The Economist, etc. which we were not interested in. As specified in the research criteria, our focus was on regional business publications that are influential in various regions in the US. A further search revealed more precompiled lists of top business publications, but most of them did not specify what criteria was used to determine that they are 'top' publications.
As an alternative strategy, we sought to find competitors of Nashville Business Journal (suggested by client) to locate more of such kinds of publications. The strategy led us to an updated list (updated in April 2019) by the American City Business Journals that had a compilation of various cities' business journals listed in alphabetical order and with the number of subscribers included. We were able to identify and rank the top 11 publications using the provided number of subscribers. We also determined that in terms of the number of subscribers, the Nashville Business Journal comes 12th with 11,047 subscribers. However, we excluded it from the list as specified in the research criteria. The top 11 publications (by the number of subscribers) are as outlined in the key findings section below.
