Virgin Voyages - Trendy Offerings

Virgin Voyages is far from average. Their food options have gotten away from the standard buffet and instead they will offer gourmet experiences. Their cabins have multiple features that are so unique they are being patented. Amenities range from a relaxing manage to "punking" it out on the club dance floor.

TRENDY FOOD

  • Virgin Voyages will not be having buffet style food options. Instead, they will be pairing fresh ingredients and vibrant in over 20 restaurants while partnering with "most incredible cuisine connoisseurs from NYC to London, we aim to give you a hand (or... many hands) with whatever it is you're craving."
  • All food is included in the price along with basic beverages (sparkling water, non-pressed juices, sodas, teas, and coffee). There are no upcharges for food.
  • There is no tipping. This is included in the price of the cruise.
  • Food is available for delivery 24 hours per day.
FEATURED RESTAURANTS
  • The Wake is a mix of nostalgia and "cool". You will " enter a world that harks back to the old steakhouse, three-martini-lunch days of Madison Avenue ad men. But thankfully now with gender equality. And less cigar smoke."
  • Pink Agave is inspired by the street food scene. A master of ceremonies will guide you through this Mexican experience.
  • Razzle Dazzle offers creative takes on classics.
  • The Test Kitchen is inspired by Escoffer's Ma Cuisine. It is part laboratory, part cooking school, and part restaurant. It is recommended for the curious, boundary pushing taste buds.
  • Gunbae, is a meat grilling, soju drinking experience. The Korean BBQ centers around the social experience.
  • Lick Me Till Ice Cream- is a nostalgic ice cream shop with seasonal, artisinal flavors.
  • The Dock features views and mezze-style bites. Elegant, seaside chilling, lounging, and the ocean breeze are featured.
  • Extra Virgin, an Italian trattoria, has fresh, handmade, regionally inspired food.
  • The Gallery is modeled after food halls, and is the go to for a quick bite. There is a dedicated bakery, panini shop, burger grill, taco shack, sushi bar, noodle bar, soup and salad stand, and a 24-hour American diner.
  • There is also a coffee house and a draught house.

TRENDY LODGING/CABINS

  • Cabins are modern, yacht inspired, with "clever" technology. 93 percent of cabins offer an ocean view and 86 percent feature a Sea Terrace". The layout is patent pending.
  • Rooms can be transformed with the touch of a button with mood lighting and Seabeds. Seabeds transform from sleeping quarters to gathering areas.
  • All rooms are eco-friendly and automatically conserve energy when no one is in them.
  • Rock Star Suites provide exclusive access throughout the ship, personal stylists, marble bathrooms. These suites can hold 2-4 people and are 352-2147 square feet. The massive suites are guitar clad, have ocean views from every corner, terraces, outdoor showers, hot tubs, and outdoor dining with a runway table that has a staircase. There will be dedicated hair and makeup crews, unlimited alcoholic drinks, and in room bar. Out of the 1,330 cabins, 78 are RockStar Suites.

  • The Manor is a two-story, three bar space that has a 70s punk vibe. Ground breaking shows will kick off each night before it transitions into a nightclub.
  • The Aquatic Club is a glamorous, sophisticated pool deck that offers the feeling of a contemporary yacht.
  • The Beach Club is the private beach in Bimini just for guests. It will be an experience that can not be achieved anywhere else. The day starts with yoga, then proceeds to DJ sets, cocktails, and an evening scene with bonfires.
  • The Red Room is the entertainment space, and the first multi-form theater at sea.
  • The Groupie is the place to go if Japanese style karaoke is desired. Bookable private sessions will be offered.
  • Voyage Vinyl, the record shop, offers listening stations.

Virgin Voyages - Company Overview

Virgin Voyages will set sail in 2020, with 2,770 sailors and 1,150 employees. Their demographic is that of the adult who is also young and affluent. With a multitude of partnerships and collaborations, the media is anxiously awaiting the maiden voyage.

OVERVIEW

  • Virgin Voyages was originally founded in 2014.
  • They are a lifestyle brand committed to creating the world's most irresistible holiday.
  • Tickets officially went on sale February 14, 2019, for 2020 cruises. When checking on the booking website, April 2020 was the earliest date to book.
  • When the Scarlett Lady sets sail in 2020, she will be hosting more than 2,770 sailors (passengers), and 1,150 crew from around the world.
  • Over 90% of the cabins have a sea view, and 86% will have a terrace.
  • Cruises will all depart at 7pm, so the evening sunsets may be featured.

DEMOGRAPHICS

  • They are not attempting to steal customers from mainstream cruise lines, but to expand the cruise line customer base.

INVESTORS

  • Bain Capital is the only listed investor. It was their market research that found an “enormous” number of non-cruisers were willing to give cruises a try if the Virgin brand were attached."
  • Bain will assist with the $2.55 billion investment in Virgin Voyages.

PARTNERSHIPS

  • Fincantieri is their ship builder, from Italy. There are currently four ships on order.
  • Concrete Amsterdam, Roman and Williams, Softroom, and Tom Dixon, are designers that have partnered on the design of the ship.

  • Intelligenstia Coffee will be the exclusive coffee provider, and will have a custom blend for the cruise.
  • Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio designed the suites.
  • Wynwood Brewing Company, of Miami, partnered by creating a special pale ale just for the cruise.
  • Pearson Loyd is responsible for the patent pending cabin design layout featuring the Seabed, the first-ever transformational cabin bed at sea. Mood lighting will automatically adjust to the time of day, reflecting the colors of the actual time of day where the ship is. PIR presence sensors will detect when no one is in the room and move to energy saver mode by adjusting the air conditioning, and closing blinds.
  • Cuba is also a partner, with Havana being a featured destination. "We are thrilled to share the news about our partnership with Cuba and can’t wait to take our sailors to Havana, which is without doubt, one of the Caribbean’s most authentic and enriching destinations, said Virgin Voyages President and CEO Tom McAlpin. “This fantastic place offers the chance for our sailors to create their own unique stories as they uncover cultural treasures, meet the locals and just soak up the atmosphere.”
  • Soho Ink will be providing tattoos while sailors are on board. Famous tattoo artists will be in residency, such as Lou Rubino, Jr, and Arlo DiCristina. Employees will also be encouraged to express themselves with tattoos.
  • Yellow Leaf, an organization dedicated to fostering the empowerment of women and rural communities in Thailand, will be making custom hammocks.
  • Virgin is partnering with Bimini to develop a land based portion of the cruise. “Virgin pledges to create a destination to rival the best beach clubs in Ibiza and Saint-Tropez, two high-end, party-centric ports of call in the Mediterranean,” the article states. It said an expansive lagoon-style pool will anchor the club." Miami architects EOA, Inc. will be in charge of the design.
  • Mother New York Ad agency will be their marketing partner.
  • Virgin will partner with Miami-Dade County to build a tropical terminal overlooking the skyline.

ENTERTAINMENT COLLABORATIONS

  • Mark Ronson, Academy, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning artist and producer, has committed to being the "Minister of Music". He will be creating playlists for the ship, curating the vinyl record collection, and working with music teams. He has agreed to four performances at the Beach Club in Bimini, Bahamas.
  • MK (Marc Kinchen) and Sofi Tukker will also be part of the residency program.
  • Jenny Gertsen, Andy Weiner, Sam Pinkleton, Ani Taj, PigPen Theater Co., the 7 Fingers, Roslyn Harm and Alfredo Guenzani will produce an entertainment lineup.
  • Architects WorkAC and theater consultants Auerbach Pollock Friedlander are designing "the first transformational multi-form theater at sea. It will transform into four different configurations — a traditional Proscenium stage, an alley stage used in fashion shows, a dance flat-floor configuration, and finally a unique reverse stage setup. This first at-sea theater will enable Virgin Voyages to create completely different experiences for each day of the voyage."
