US Mobile Carrier Phone Deals

Two trends in mobile phone deals among mobile carriers in the U.S. are (1) offering a variety of unlimited plan tiers and (2) including entertainment packages in unlimited data plans.

Trends in Deals Offered by Mobile Carriers in the U.S.

Trend 1: Unlimited Plan Tiers

  • A trend in mobile phone deals among mobile carriers in the U.S. is offering a variety of unlimited plans tiers (at different price points and with different perks).
  • This trend marks a departure from some carriers previously offering just one unlimited plan.
  • As was stated in a December 2019 article, "[t]he Big Four carriers now offer different tiers of unlimited plans, with perks escalating the more you pay."
  • The offering of a variety of unlimited plan tiers is a trend among mobile carriers in the U.S. because it was described as such by at least two reputable sources (Digital Trends and Tom's Guide) and carriers are joining in on this trend.
  • Sprint is a mobile carrier that's leading this trend, as it used to have just one unlimited plan (Unlimited Freedom Plan), but now offers three tiers of unlimited plans (Unlimited Basic, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Premium).
  • Verizon is a mobile carrier that's leading this trend, as it offers four tiers of unlimited plans (Start Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, and Get More Unlimited).

Trend 2: Including Entertainment Packages in Unlimited Data Plans

  • Another trend in mobile phone deals among mobile carriers in the U.S. is including entertainment packages within unlimited data plans.
  • Some examples of entertainment packages included within unlimited data plans are subscriptions to Hulu, Prime Video, and Netflix.
  • Entertainment packages being included in unlimited data plans is a trend among mobile carriers in the U.S. because it was described as such by at least three reputable sources (WhistleOut Inc., CNET, and Cord Cutters News).
  • Sprint is a carrier that's leading this trend, as it offers a free subscription to Hulu for customers on its Unlimited Basic, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Premium plans.
  • Metro by T-Mobile is a carrier that's leading this trend, as it offers a free subscription to Amazon Prime Video for customers on its $60 Unlimited Plan.
  • Verizon is a carrier that's leading this trend, as it recently started offering a free subscription for a year to Disney+ for customers on its Start Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, and Get More Unlimited plans. As a recent Wall Street Journal article stated, Verizon's Disney+ offering for its unlimited-data customers gives Verizon "a fresh way to hold on to customers."
