Overview

Extensive research did not yield exact figures for the cost of a hotel review written by top travel bloggers, thus triangulation was used to arrive at the findings. Upwork revealed an average hourly rate of $40.60 for top successful travel bloggers. Data from Travel Bloggers Association revealed an average cost of 48.6 cents per word for travel writers whereas top magazines paid an average of 37.75 cents per word to top travel writer/bloggers. Details of the findings are given below:

Methodology

Research was conducted using reputable freelancing and travel blogs, news articles, databases, media articles, industry sources, hotel sites, sites like Trip Advisor and sites of top travel magazines and did not yield specific data related to the request. Thus, triangulation was used to arrive at the top travel bloggers/writers charges. For the purpose of triangulation, data was gathered from Upwork, Travel Bloggers Association and travel magazines.

It was found that the average rate charged by top travel bloggers varies because of many reasons, including the number of followers and engagement rates.

Findings

AVERAGE COST OF TRAVEL WRITER/BLOGGER — UPWORK

Using Upwork's "top" 13 travel writers with a 90% success rate and more than 30,000 earnings, an average hourly rate of $40.60 [(30+60+50+35+45+50+30+75+25+20+35+27.78+45)/13] was calculated. Details of the top 13 writers including their hourly rates and earnings are as follows:

Based on the survey data from 'Travel Bloggers Association', the average cost of hiring a travel writer/blogger to write a hotel review was calculated to be 48.6 cents per word (hourly rates were not given). The calculations of the above figure are given below:

Average cost of a review by top travel bloggers was estimated using the prices paid by travel magazines to travel writer/bloggers. The average cost was calculated to be 37.75 cents per word (hourly charges were not available).
All charges were converted to per word rates for the purpose of comparison with the average cost of a review according to the data from Travel Bloggers Association. Following are the details of the rates used in the calculation of the above figure:

It was also found that an average sponsor post for travel cost $220 on Instagram, the highest cost of sponsor post on Instagram. Research also showed that the rate per post also varied depending on the location of the Instagram blogger.

Conclusion

As exact cost of hotel review written by top travel bloggers could not be found, triangulation was used to arrive at the results. Upwork revealed that its top successful travel bloggers/writer charged an average of $40.60/hour. Data from Travel Bloggers Association showed that travel writers charged an average of 48.6 cents per word whereas top magazines paid an average of 37.75 cents per word.
