Transportation Dedicated To The Elderly and Sick - Spain and Norway

Our research team carried out extensive research through credible sources for information regarding transport services solely dedicated to elderly and sick people. We have compiled a list of ten transportation services in Spain and seven in Norway that provides services for elderly and sick people. We have presented our findings in the project spreadsheet.

METHODOLOGY

We began our research by combing through nation-wide transportation services for the elderly, sick, or handicapped people in Spain and Norway. The result of the search led us to multiple official government websites in Spain and Norway. Each of these websites provided information about public transportation for the elderly, sick, and disabled people who live in the two respective countries. However, the public transportation services stated in the websites were not mainly dedicated to the elderly, sick, and disabled people, but they provide transportation services for the elderly, sick, and disabled people.

Next, we decided to search for any city-wide transportation services in Spain and Norway that were primarily tailored for elderly, sick, and disabled people. From our research, we were able to get various information from the cities of Oslo and Madrid. However, public transportation is enhanced for these kinds of people, but not primarily dedicated or made for them.

Lastly, we broadened the scope of our search to blog posts and news articles of companies that offer services specific to elderly and sick individuals as well as other forms of transportation. We attempted to ascertain if the taxi/transportation services at some companies were provided under a separate entity/brand. Nonetheless, we discovered that the companies we found retained the same name, but designated their services such as senior taxi or sick ride assistance. We decided to include such companies in the spreadsheet due to the lack of services solely meant for the sick and elderly.

Transportation Dedicated To The Elderly and Sick - Sweden and Denmark

Sweden offers taxis or specially adapted vehicles for elderly, sick, and disabled people who live within the country. Denmark offers electric rickshaws piloted by volunteers for elderly, sick, and disabled people in the cities of Skovsminde and Trongården. However, more information about public transportation dedicated to the elderly, sick, and disabled people in Sweden in Denmark is limited, and this might be because the two countries have only very few dedicated public transport services for elderly, sick, and disabled people. The information we found can be found in the spreadsheet.

Methodology

We started the search by looking for any nation-wide transportation services for the elderly, sick, or handicapped people in Sweden and Denmark. The search led us to multiple official government websites in Sweden and for Denmark. Each of them provided information about public transportation for the elderly, sick, and disabled people who live in the two respective countries. However, the public transportation services stated in the websites were not mainly dedicated to the elderly, sick, and disabled people, but they were enhancements made to accommodate the elderly, sick, and disabled people.

We then decided to search for any city-wide transportation services in Sweden and Denmark that were primarily tailored for elderly, sick, and disabled people. From the search, we were able to get various information from the cities of Stockholm and Copenhagen. However, once again the public transportation are enhanced for these kinds of people, but not primarily dedicated or made for them.

We then expanded our search to blog posts and news articles. We looked for a user story or press coverage of public transportation services that are dedicated towards elderly, sick, and disabled people in both Sweden and Denmark. The search led us to a blog post, that provided information about how difficult it is for disabled people in Denmark to use public transportation. We also came across a news article that provided information about rickshaws dedicated to the elderly people in Denmark.

After the exhaustive search, we concluded that there are only a minimal number of transportation services dedicated to the elderly, sick, and disabled people in Sweden and Denmark. This leads to a lack of information about the given topic.

Transportation Services Dedicated to the Elderly, Sick or Disabled People In Sweden

Sweden ensures that elderly people are cared for when it comes to public transportation. This comes in forms of taxis or specially adapted vehicles for the elderly. Additionally, these options are available for anyone unable to use regular public transport. Moreover, the Sweden government is instructing various municipalities to make facilities such as bus and tram stops more accessible, especially for the elderly, sick or disabled people living in the country.

Transportation Services Dedicated Towards the Elderly, Sick or Disabled People in Denmark

In January 2019, volunteers in Skovsminde and Trongården started to pilot electric rickshaws for the elderly as a way to give them some public transport within Denmark’s given landscape. The Prevention and Sports Committee purchased the first two rickshaws, and the committee is planning to expand this initiative to other places in the country.

Transportation Dedicated To The Elderly and Sick - Germany and Italy

After a thorough search through credible sources, we have compiled a list of ten transportation services in Germany and ten in Italy that are solely dedicated to elderly and sick people. Our findings on this topic are available on the Germany and Italy tabs of the attached spreadsheet.

METHODOLOGY

To identify the appropriate transportation services, we searched through alternative data sets including Europe-based company directories like Europages along with cloud-based taxi dispatch software such as Taxicaller, which listed companies in general and those that provide taxi and transportation services. Using these sources, we were able to find three services for Germany and two for Italy that is solely dedicated to elderly and sick people. To locate additional companies, we explored reliable databases, study papers, and market player studies addressing emergency, senior, and elderly transport. We reviewed works published by companies such as McKinsey, Euromonitor, Accenture, and Deloitte among others, as well as German and Italian media sources such as Deutsche Welle. However, the reports we came across primarily presented data on businesses that provide ambulance services.

Next, we expanded the scope of our research to include companies that offer services specific to elderly and sick individuals as well as other forms of transportation.
