What are the top US blogs on the web?
Hello! Thanks for your request for a list of the top U.S. blogs on the web. The short version is that I have created a list of 15 such blogs in this spreadsheet. I compiled this list from a pre-existing list from e-Business and then added additional data from SimilarWeb and Site Worth Traffic. Please note that a typical Wonder list contains 10 items, but I expanded that to 15 as I found a pre-existing list of the top 15 blogs. Below you will find a deep dive of my methodology and findings.
METHODOLOGY
I began by searching for existing lists of top U.S. blogs based on page views. eBusiness had the most comprehensive and current (December 2016) ranking of blogs based on "estimate monthly visitors." It ranks blogs based on a "continually updated average" from Alexa Global Traffic Rank and Quantcast. Using Crunchbase, I confirmed that each blog is American and then pulled contact information from each website.
As discovered and verified by other Wonder researchers, the most reliable source for checking web traffic data is SimilarWeb. For that reason, I have included "total visits" in the past six months from SimilarWeb for all the blogs I found to confirm their ranking. Since neither eBusiness nor SimilarWeb provide estimated page views as you requested, I also verified each blog's daily page views using Site Worth Traffic. In some cases, such as PerezHilton and Cheezburger, data from SimilarWeb and Site Worth Traffic indicate that the values in the eBusiness list may be overstated. However, I searched and confirmed that the blogs in this spreadsheet are still the top blogs by verifying total six month traffic for blogs in other lists such as this Alexa list.
FINDINGS
I listed all findings in this spreadsheet with the following columns: the blog name, location of headquarters, contact, total visits in past six months, number unique monthly visitors, number daily unique visitors, and number daily page views. I included additional columns at the front to rank blogs by total visits in past six months, number unique monthly visitors, or number daily unique visitors. All data is linked to the relevant source in the spreadsheet.
Note: Gizmodo, Lifehacker, Jezebel, Deadspin, and Kotaku are each separate blogs but are all owned by Gawker Media based in New York.
POSSIBLE CONTINUED RESEARCH
While I was able to find a contact page for each website, I was unable to quickly find email addresses and phone numbers for specific people. If you are interested in email addresses and phone numbers for specific people, I recommend asking a follow-up request to this question with the positions/titles you want to contact. Further research would involve finding the people who fill those positions and their contact information.
It was quite time consuming to pull this level of data for 15 blogs. If you would like to expand this list to all blogs over 1 million page views per month, I recommend submitting additional requests for researchers to add to the spreadsheet.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, information on the top 15 U.S. blogs is in this spreadsheet. I compiled this list from a pre-existing list from e-Business and then added additional data from SimilarWeb and Site Worth Traffic.
