What are the top German outdoor equipment companies?
Hello and thank you for asking Wonder! I understand that you are seeking the top German outdoor equipment companies. In short, these companies include Decathlon, Vaude, Leki, Edelrid, Bergzeit, Deuter Sport, Ortovox, Skylotec, Dynafit, and Tatonka. I have compiled this on the attached spreadsheet. I have provided the name of each company, a link to their site, a sample of their product offerings, and revenues.
METHODOLOGY
In order to identify these companies, I first looked at lists of the different outdoor equipment companies that were headquartered in Germany. From there, I looked at the different types of products they offered. I eliminated those that had a sole focus on clothing, such as hiking boots, rather than offering any kind of equipment for activities like camping, backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing. Once I identified companies that met that requirement, I then narrowed down the top 10 by seeking out the revenues of each company, using databases like Hoovers. I did not include any option that did not have an available revenue figure. As most of these companies are private, the revenue figures tend to be estimated. In one case, Tatonka, their only revenue figure is from an older report, which was the most recent available.
I looked at a variety of different types of companies, being sure to take a broad look at outdoor equipment companies so as to not miss any. Many companies had a narrow focus and I found that no kayak companies had publicly available revenue figures that would put them in the top 10.
