METHODOLOGY
In order to finalize the twelve top companies that could qualify for the given criteria, i.e. biggest in terms of revenue and company size, the company must be headquartered in San Diego, and excluding educational institutions and government entities, our first approach is to look at any available precompiled lists which ranks top companies in the city either by revenue or by company size. The first approach did not yield a robust result. Some lists were published more than 5 years ago, some were not headquartered in the city and some were based on employee's rating. Hence, we utilize the Hoovers database (and also cross-checked it with the lists) and sort it by location. We only considered those companies that are headquartered in San Diego and determined those with the highest sales revenues. We then double-checked each company's recent number of employees, their revenues, and their office HQ address.
