What are the top 10 most popular cars on the road today?
Hello! Thanks for your question about the top 10 most popular cars on the road in the United States today. I have calculated and summarized the top 10 most sold cars from 2007-2016 as requested. The list includes the make and model of each vehicle as well as the number of units sold over the past 10 years. Below you will find a deep dive of my findings.
BACKGROUND
The most challenging part of this research was locating a valid source of information that included all the required information. While there are no sources that specifically list the most popular vehicles over the past 10 years, there are sources that list the top-selling cars for a given year. Looking at the number of a given vehicle sold year after year, is a good measure of how popular that vehicle is.
METHODOLOGY
To tackle this problem, I looked for a reliable source of data that would list the top best-selling vehicles for each year, over the last 10 years. I was able to locate the top best-selling vehicles for each year from year 2007 to 2016. However there was no information available for December 2016. The most updated information for 2016 included the top best-selling vehicles from January to November, which covers almost the whole year. Additionally it is assumed that for each vehicle sold in a given year, the model year of the vehicle is current. Therefore the model year has not been included in the aggregated results.
After locating the information, I imported them into a spreadsheet and added the number of units sold for each vehicle for each year. Then I sorted the results.

CONCLUSION
While many new car models have emerged over the recent years, this list includes some of the all time favorites. The car industry has evolved over the past 10 years, but the top best-sellers in this list are still being bought and sold to this day and remain among the most popular cars on the road in the United States today. Finally, car manufacturers will continue to manufacture new models of the same vehicle each year for most of the vehicles listed here, which means the popularity of these cars will continue to grow in the future.
