Texas Insurers (1)

Twitter URLs for insurers listed in rows 2-110 have been compiled in the attached spreadsheet.

Findings

  • Aetna does not have separate Twitter accounts for different states or verticals. Instead, it uses one handle, @aetna, for all of its services. The same is applicable for American National Life Insurance Company of Texas and its Twitter handle @CareerswithAN, which is used for all of its services. The latter's account focuses on recruitment.
  • Amerigroup does not have separate Twitter accounts for different states or verticals. Instead, it uses a universal handle @amerigroup for all of its services, specifically focused on recruiting.
  • Cigna does not have separate Twitter accounts for different states or verticals. Instead, it uses a universal profile (@cigna) for all of its services. The same is applicable for Germania Insurance Company, an insurance company that also uses one account (@germaniamutual) for all of its services.
  • Colonial Insurance Company does not have separate Twitter accounts for different states or verticals. Instead, it uses a @colonialbanking Twitter account for all of its services.

Research strategy

We started our research by directly looking for the assigned companies' profiles on the Twitter platform. For those companies that did not show up immediately, we looked into whether they were mentioned in tweets by individuals and other companies under a different username. Finally, we utilized their websites and links provided in the social media and contact sections in order to find out whether they are using Twitter. If we didn't find a profile using these strategies, we assumed that it doesn't exist and entered N/A in the corresponding cell of the spreadsheet.

Texas Insurers (2)

Rows 111-120 of the attached spreadsheet have been updated with Twitter URLs of the requested companies.

Selected Findings

  • In 2013, liquidation proceedings of Gramercy Insurance Company started. Therefore, the insurer is not active.
  • Similarly, Highlands Insurance Company has been liquidated.
  • Hallmark County Mutual Insurance Company is a part of Hallmark Financial Services. All the latter's subsidiaries have a joint Twitter profile.
  • HealthSpring Life & Health Insurance Company, Inc. is a part of Cigna and doesn't have a separate Twitter profile.
  • Hermann Sons Life only has Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.
  • Houston Casualty Company is a subsidiary of Tokio Marine HCC. Only the parent company has a Twitter profile.
  • While KelseyCare Administrators LLC and KelseyCare Plan Administrators LLC don't have separate Twitter accounts, there is a profile of the health plan that is their main offering.
  • Life Insurance Company of the Southwest is part of the National Life Group. Only the latter has a Twitter profile.
  • There is no Twitter page for Memorial Hermann Affiliated Services or the hospital's health plans. However, the parent company, the Memorial Hermann hospital, has a Twitter profile.
  • The branches of Methodist Retirement Communities (MRC) only have Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Research Strategy

Our main two strategies for finding Twitter channels of the requested companies were directly searching the Twitter platform and scouring through the insurers' websites for links to their Twitter profiles.

When both of those strategies didn't produce an answer, especially when we didn't even find the company website, we dug deeper to look for the parent company, another name, or information about the business stopping its operations.

If we discovered a larger parent company that has a Twitter profile, we included it instead, like in the case of US Health Group and National Foundation Life Insurance Company or several examples from the "Selected Findings" section. Similarly, if a profile of the business wasn't available but there was one for its main offering (like KelseyCare health plan), we used it instead.

When there was no Twitter profile of the company in question or its parent company, we put "N/A" in the appropriate cell.

Texas Insurers (3)

Twitter URLs for the identified Texas-based insurers were included in rows 221-322 of the attached spreadsheet.

Selected Findings

  • Shelby Casualty Insurance Company is inactive.
  • Sierra Title appears to only have a Facebook profile.
  • While Slavonic Insurance Company of Texas is featured in multiple business databases, it doesn't appear to have an active website or a Twitter account. The same can be said about the Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association.
  • Southern Vanguard Insurance Company only has an automatically generated LinkedIn page.
  • Southwest Life & Health Insurance Company is a subsidiary of FirstCare Health Plans, which is a "registered service mark of SHA, L.L.C. (included in row 233).
  • State Farm companies have a shared Twitter account.
  • Superior Health Plans' Twitter account bears the name of its insurance issuer, Ambetter.
  • Texan Title insurance Company has Facebook and LinkedIn profiles but doesn't have a Twitter profile.
  • While Texas Heritage Insurance provides a link to its Twitter account on the website, it redirects to the main page of the site.

Research Strategy

We searched for Twitter URLs for the assigned insurers by scouring through the Twitter platform and visiting the company websites to look for links to Twitter profiles. If the company appeared not to have a website, we also double-checked in business databases if it doesn't use a different name. If it turned out to be the case, like with FirstCare used instead of SHA, L.L.C., we did additional searches with accurate names.

In certain cases, we decided to provide Twitter accounts of parent companies or organizations responsible for insuring, though the insurance branches themselves didn't have dedicated Twitter accounts. Texas Children's Health Plan only has Facebook and YouTube accounts. However, we provided a Twitter account of the plan's owner, Texas Children's Hospital. The same was done for Texas Farm Bureau's insurance branches. Similarly, for several companies, such as the United Services Automobile Association, we included the same Twitter accounts for several divisions that were listed separately.
