Research Strategy
We began the research by reviewing the O-Net Online data regarding surgical assistants. We hoped to use the data provided to calculate the current number of surgical assistants in the United States. Although the source has information regarding surgical assistants, the data given is general and includes health information technologists, medical registrars, technical workers, healthcare practitioners, and others. Additionally, the data available was not the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. We were also unable to find specific data for surgical assistants after a thorough search through 2018, 2019, and 2020 annual reports provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, after an extensive search in career databases and media publications, we were able to find the number of surgical assistants in 2020. We used data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to calculate the current number of surgical assistants.
