The manufacturing industry has the biggest transportation cost followed by retail trade, and wholesale trade. Additional insights have been provided below.

Transportation Spend by Industry

  • The total transportation spend in the utilities sector was $27.6 billion with the bulk of the cost coming from the pipeline transportation mode.
  • The total transportation spend in the finance and insurance sector was $27.6 billion with the bulk of the cost coming from the for-hire air, water, and rail transportation mode.
  • In-house truck transportation accounted for $35.1 billion out of the total transportation spend of $45.5 billion.
