Research Strategy

To determine the main offices, product catalogs, year founded, and chemical segments distributed by the selected companies, we reviewed their websites and social media pages and readily found most of the requested information. Company size metrics such as revenue were not readily available on their websites since the private companies do not publicly publish their financial reports. We, therefore, used reliable market research companies such as ZoomInfo and Crunchbase and were able to find revenue details for Nacional de Servicios Dargue and Rodequim but none for Tecnoespecialidades Comerciales and Specialypy Chemicals. We were, however, able to find the year Tecnoespecialidades Comerciales was founded.

In a bid to provide a comparative metric that would also include Specialypy Chemicals, we searched through the website and social media pages for other metrics besides revenue, such as years in business, but this did not yield any results as the company has not provided any details about its history, and its social media pages such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter were both inactive and had not been updated. We then searched through the companies identified in its website as partners, such as Thomas Swan & Company Ltd and Euroceras for any information regarding Specialypy Chemicals but this too proved to be futile. Finally, we searched through the public domain including company profiling sites such as Crafts.co, Crunchbase, and ZoomInfo with the hope of obtaining third party information regarding the company but we could not find any information or relevant metrics. We, therefore, concluded that this information was not publicly available.

The selected companies do not specifically indicate the particular states in Mexico where they ship their products to, we have made inference based on their office locations and manufacturing plants in Mexico. We also relied on Google Translate for Nacional de Servicios Dargue's website which is offered in Spanish.

  • Entec Polymers is a big company with at least 189 to 365 employees.

  • As stated by its logistics page, the company can deliver all-around Mexico. However, clients must contact them for the necessary information.
  • The company distributes multiple types of specialty chemicals, which include, but is not limited to, adhesives, lubricants, polymers, elastomers, polyester, polybutylene, and others. Their product catalog can be found here.

Chimes Mexicana

  • Chimes Mexicana was established in 1995 and has been around the industry for about 25 years. The company is a representative of Chimes Italy until 2004. In 2004, Chimes Italy merged with NeoChimia, establishing Letex SPA, a company owned by the GSC Group in Italy.
  • Currently, Chimes Mexicana’s main office is located in Av. Alud 302, Peñitas, 37180, Leon, Gto. Mexico, while Letex SPA’s main office is located in Via Dell Industria 15/16, Montebello Vincentino, I-36054, Italy.
  • Chimes Mexicana currently has about 30 employees.
  • Chimes Mexicana receives chemical supply from the GSC group of companies and distributes these supplies in Mexico. However, no information could be found regarding which specific states the company distributes these supplies.
  • Chimes Mexicana distributes multiple types of specialty chemicals primarily used for leather and textile. These chemicals include wet end resins, oils, and fatting agents, auxiliaries, dyers, retaining fat liquors, tanning agents, finishing waxes, casein finishing products, adhesive polyurethane, topcoats and polyurethanes, and finishing auxiliaries. There are two parts to the company’s catalogs, one is for the wet end, and the other is for the finishing. The product catalog can be found here.

Alien SA de CV

Research Strategy

The team was not able to find the specific states that Chimes Mexicana distributes specialty chemicals. We also could not find Alien SA de CV’s product catalog as it did not provide any on its website or any other channels.

The team started the search for the necessary information by looking into each of the company’s website. We primarily visited the About Us, Contact, and Product pages to see if they provided information regarding the location of their main office or headquarters, their product catalog, and metrics that may measure the size of the company. We also looked into the region that they might distribute, and the chemical segments or types they distribute. Please note that during this search, we had to use Google Translate to translate the websites for us. Most of the information required for Entec Polymers can be found on their website, but the revenue and employee number of the company must be estimated from reliable sources. However, for Chimes Mexicana and Alien-Ryedesa, we had to implement various research strategies in an attempt to find the needed information.

For Chimes Mexicana, we scoured the company website, corporate reports, and company profiles on sites like Crunchbase and Pitchbook. We also scoured social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and others. Through this search, we found the size in terms of employees as well as the founding date but no other sizeable company metrics, and no information whether the company distributes to Mexican states.

To further our search, we decided to look into Letex SPA because, in 2004, the company NeoChimia--the company that Chimes Mexicana has been working for--had merged with Letex SPA. We wanted to see whether Letex SPA has information regarding Chimes Mexicana. The team also visited the GSC group, the overarching corporation that owns all the listed companies such as Letex SPA, Exel, Ber Chimica, and others, to see whether it has a bifurcation of each of its companies under its holdings. During this search, we looked for company reports which include annual reports, news, and press releases. The team hypothesized that this search would yield information regarding Chimes Mexicana, as it is part of Letex SPA and the GSC group of companies. However, after the search, we found that Letex SPA does not have a dedicated website, and we also did not find any information regarding the company aside for it being part of the GSC Group. However, we were able to find that the GSC group of companies exports tanning chemicals to Mexico, specifically to Chimes Mexicana, but we are not sure as to which specific states Chimes Mexicana distributes these chemicals. Additionally, due to URL issues with the company website, we decided to take screenshots of the product catalog instead.

We applied the same research strategy with Alien SA de CV. While scouring the company website, we were able to find the company’s main office, the year it was founded, and how long the company has been around for. We also found that the company distributes specialty chemicals to major cities in Mexico. This is confirmed by the fact that Alien SA de CV supplies to various companies found in different states of Mexico. However, we were not able to find any other metric that can show the size of the company. Additionally, the company only mentioned its specialty chemicals, and there was no product catalog to be found within the website. Furthermore, the company does not have any profile in Zoom Info, Crunchbase, Pitchbook, and other business sites. We also decided to look into the given Facebook and Twitter page given by the company on their website, in hopes of finding its product catalog there alongside other needed information about the company. However, during this search, we found that the only functioning link was the company’s Twitter page, and it did not have any useful information on its page.

  • The only information we could find about the geographic area that the company distributes to in Mexico is that the State of Mexico is part of such.

Research Strategy

For each company, we first reviewed its website. Through those websites, we were able to find each company's headquarters, product catalogs, and the types of chemicals they distribute. A few of the companies mentioned on their websites the geographical area(s) they distribute to and we mentioned any such areas that were within Mexico. For the companies whose websites didn't mention those geographical distribution areas, we tried looking for any listings of the companies in business databases, articles, or on Linkedin. That approach only yielded information for Atlanta Química. To provide a metric showing the size of each company, we first tried to find the revenue of each company through sources such as Hoovers. We were able to find estimated revenue totals for two of the companies through Hoovers. For the other two companies that we couldn't find estimated revenue for, we also looked for other data such as production capacity, sites, and years in business, and provided that information as was available.

We therefore provided links to the product lists from their corresponding websites.

For the HQ location, in cases where the company has more than one address on their website, we used their official Linked pages to verify which of the addresses is their headquarters. We collated all the screenshots of their LinkedIn pages in a Google document for easy reference.

To show the size of the company, we used the revenue information collected from Zoominfo, a platform for finding business information about private companies, since their annual reports are not publicly available and we couldn't find any press releases or media articles that mention their revenue. Since Zoominfo reports revenue per quarter, we just added the revenue from Q1 to Q4 of 2019 to get the estimated annual revenue of each company. For Charlotte Chemical, we could not find any information about its revenue or sales, so we provided the number of years they have been in business.

Research Strategy

We started our research by examining the list of Mexican chemical suppliers featured on the World Chemical Distributor Directory. We conducted an extensive search through the website of each company to identify if they deal in specialty chemicals. Next, we tried to identify the industries they serve and any specialty additive they highlight on their website.
During our research, we identified that many international companies operated in Mexico as a supplier of chemicals. For these companies, we tried to identify if they supply any specialty chemical in Mexico, along with bulk chemical supplies. We searched through industry database sites, regional company websites, LinkedIn profiles, press releases, and media publications to ascertain that each company offers specialty chemical products in Mexico. We were successful in compiling a list of 14 specialty chemical suppliers in Mexico with this methodology.
