The short version is that 11 counties comprise the main cities and towns where the high tech employment around Silicon Valley is distributed, and there are five main high tech industries in this region, led by the design of computer systems and related services. The industry with most of the high tech employment around Silicon Valley is classified under NAICS 5415, Computer Systems Design and Related Services, which provide 173,000 jobs in the 11 counties around and including Silicon Valley.

METHODOLOGY
In order to answer your inquiry, I looked for two basic types of information: demographic and employment data. The two most important sources for this kind of information are the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, both from the US government. These sources provide detailed information at the county level.
In your inquiry, you state that you need information of the cities and towns surrounding the Silicon Valley. I decided to focus on this geographical unit, the county, because it allows me to provide comparable and standardized information, and will cover the entire area around the Silicon Valley, which spans over the Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (and the southern part of the Alameda County).

MAIN HIGH TECH INDUSTRIES AROUND SILICON VALLEY
Based on a study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the high tech industries in the US were identified. From those industries, and taking into consideration the particular characteristics of Silicon Valley, 5 high tech industries were selected for employment analysis in the region. These industries, according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), are the following:
Computer Systems Design and Related Services (NAICS 5415)
Scientific research and development services (NAICS 5417)
Semiconductor and Other Electronic Component Manufacturing (NAICS 3344)
Computer and Peripheral Equipment Manufacturing (NAICS 3341)
Software Publishers (NAICS 5112)
COUNTIES AROUND SILICON VALLEY
A total of 11 counties which are around and include Silicon Valley were selected for the analysis. The counties around Silicon Valley are the following:
San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, and Marin.
POPULATION
The population figures for these counties was obtained from the US Census Bureau, for the 2010 Census, and projected for 2016. Please note that the focus of your inquiry is the high tech employment around Silicon Valley. In case you require a demographic analysis (age, gender, income, etc.) of this region, we will gladly provide this research as a response to a separate question.
EMPLOYMENT
From different tables from the US Bureau of Labour Statistics, the employment of the identified 5 high tech main industries was distributes over the 11 counties around and including Silicon Valley. The percent distribution of each county over the total of the 11 counties was calculated, and as a reference, over the employment in these industries in the state of California.

CONCLUSION
Summarizing, based on a study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the high tech industries in the US were identified. From those industries, and taking into consideration the particular characteristics of Silicon Valley, 5 high tech industries were selected for employment analysis in the region. On the other hand, 11 counties were selected for the analysis, because they are in the surroundings of Silicon Valley. The employment distribution of the selected 5 high tech industries in the 11 counties around, and including, Silicon Valley, was displayed in a spreadsheet, together with the percent distribution of each county in relation with the 11 counties, and with the state of California.
