Organizational Structure: TE Connectivity and ABB

After an exhaustive search through company websites, financial filings, industry reports, and various job portals, we were unable to identify the required details of the organizational structure of shared services technology centers of TE Connectivity and ABB in India or globally. However, we were able to identify the incorporation details of the shared services centers established by these companies in India and the details of some management personnel associated with these service centers. We have presented below an overview of the helpful findings for the given companies.

Helpful Findings

TE Connectivity

  • The company's shared services technology center division in India is known as 'TE Connectivity Global Shared Services India Private Limited' and was incorporated in 2015. The same is based in Bangalore, India.
  • According to LinkedIn, the shared services division has 16 employees. However, the names and profiles of most of these employees were not publicly accessible on the platform.
  • As per the publicly available information, Rajaram Rajkumar and Kamlesh Pribhu Balani were appointed as directors of the shared services division in 2015 and 2016 respectively. However, no information regarding their role or reporting line could be found.
  • Arun Kakatkar is the Managing Director of TE Connectivity India and is also responsible for the company's global shared services center in India. He also serves as the VP HR of TE Connectivity Asia Pacific. No information specific to his role at the shared services technology center or his reporting line could be found in the public domain.

  • The company opened its shared services technology center, known as the 'Global Business Service (GBS)' center, in Bangalore, India, in June 2016. The center was expected to employ over 1,000 people.
  • The above-shared services technology center functions as part of ABB Group's wholly-owned subsidiary entity in India known as ABB India Limited.
  • As per LinkedIn, Sudhir Banerjee is the Senior Vice President-Head of the GBS center. However, no information regarding his role or reporting line could be found.
  • In addition, Prakrithi Shetty is the Head HR at the GBS center. She is responsible for conceptualizing & institutionalizing people's strategy and processes in line with the global business strategy. However, no details of her reporting line could be found in the public domain.
  • The C-level staff and directors of ABB India Limited, which is the holding company of GBS center, include Sanjeev Sharma (CEO & Managing Director), TK Sridhar (Chief Financial Officer), Akilur Rahman (Chief Technology Officer), JC Deslarzes (Chairman), Darius E Udwadia (Director), Nasser Munjee (Director), Renu Sud Karnad (Director), and Tarak Mehta (Director).
  • In 2017, the company also opened a GBS center in Krakow, Poland. The same was expected to employ more than 2,000 people. However, no details of the organization structure of the same were available in the public domain. Pawel Lojszczyk serves as the Managing Director of ABB in Poland.

Research Strategy

The research team began by scouring through the corporate websites of TE Connectivity and ABB and their 'Leadership' sections. However, the corporate websites only showed the executive team for the overall company, with no details for smaller business divisions. We also looked through the annual reports and other financial filings of the given companies but found the same level of detail regarding leadership information.
We also searched through various media articles from Forbes, Business Standard, Economic Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, and Live Mint among others, but no details specific to the organizational structure of the shared services centers of the given companies could be located. All the details found were regarding the incorporation of the shared services divisions of the given companies in India and globally. In addition, we also looked at various business intelligence resources such as Crunchbase, Zoom Info, Reuters, BusinessWire, American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM), and Great Place to Work in India among others, but none of these sources yielded any relevant information. We also expanded our search to look for shared services divisions of the given companies in other countries. While we were able to find that ABB has a GBS in Poland as well, no details regarding the organizational structure of the same could be located.
Lastly, we tried to triangulate the information by using various job portals such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. During our research, we found that each of the given companies has an Indian subsidiary and the operations of the shared services technology centers are primarily controlled through the same. Hence, we tried to leverage the various job portals to search for executives working at the Indian subsidiaries of the given companies and see if they also manage the operations of the shared services centers. We could have then used the organizational structure of the Indian subsidiaries to triangulate the structure for the shared services technology centers, given the fact that they mostly share the same management. While we were able to identify a few leadership names for Indian subsidiaries and shared services centers of the given companies, there was no evidence found that the management team of the subsidiary also controls the shared services centers. We could just find that Arun Kakatkar, who is the Managing Director of TE Connectivity India, is also responsible for the company's global shared services center in India. Thus, the triangulation attempt did not yield any fruitful results.

Organizational Structure: Eaton and Emerson

After conducting thorough research through the companies’ websites, job portals, and social networks, we were unable to locate the details of the organizational structure of shared services technology centers of Eaton and Emerson in India or globally. We could not identify any evidence of Emerson's shared services technology center in India or globally. However, we were able to identify some employees of the shared services center established by Eaton in India and the details of some management personnel associated with the service center. We have presented below an overview of the helpful findings for the given companies.

Relevant Findings

Eaton

  • The company's shared services technology center division in India is known as the 'Eaton Information Technology Center.' The division was founded in 2015 and is based in Pune, India.
  • The Eaton Information Technology Center offers IT services to internal functional departments of Eaton. The division provides services, including ERP and financial integration, global infrastructure, business intelligence services, enterprise data management services, security and compliance, site infrastructure services, and other operational services for global and regional projects.
  • According to LinkedIn, the shared services division is lead by Vivek Singh, the center head, who is responsible for strategic and operational leadership with global stakeholders and multiple IT chief operating officers across the organization. He also looks for setting the strategic direction for the center, operational, functional excellence, capability building, employee engagement and development, strategic vendor management, and annual budget. However, no information regarding his reporting line could be found.
  • The Eaton Information Technology Center has several positions connected to its shared services division, including Abhijit Vidhate, the senior analyst information technology at Eaton Information Technology Center; Rinu Rathod, the talent advisor for IT skills at Eaton Information Technology Center; and Ratnakar Panchal, the business intelligence analyst at Eaton Information Technology Center. However, no information regarding their roles and reporting lines could be found.
  • Rajshri Chawla is the head of quality assurance (QA) of the Eaton Information Technology Center and is responsible for enterprise application support in India. She is responsible for various leadership roles within IT specializing in the quality assurance space specific to areas, including banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), telecommunications, and manufacturing. No detailed information specific to her role at the shared services technology center or her reporting line could be found in the public domain.
  • The C-level executives of the parent company, Eaton, include: Craig Arnold (chairman and chief executive officer), Richard H. Fearon (vice chairman and chief financial officer), Heath Monesmith (president and chief operating officer of the industrial sector), and Uday Yadav (president and chief operating officer of the electrical sector).

Emerson

  • According to LinkedIn, there is no information available regarding Emerson's shared services technology center in India.
  •  Emerson’s LinkedIn page yielded several positions connected to its shared services division. However, names and profiles are not specific to the Indian division.
  • Emerson's global employees have several positions connected to its shared services division, but names and profiles are not publicly accessible. The shared services positions include: HR shared services manager, trade compliance shared services manager, and director financial shared services.
  • The C-level executives of Emerson India include: Giovanni Zullo (president), Shirish Adi (vice president and managing director of the Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions), Anil Bhatia (vice president and managing director of the Emerson Automation Solutions).
  • The C-level executives of the parent company, Emerson, include: David N. Farr (chairman and chief executive officer), Edward L. Monser (president), Frank Dellaquila (senior executive vice president and chief financial officer), Ed Purvis (chief operating officer).

Research Methodology

The research team began conducting an x-ray search of the companies' websites for annual reports, brochures, leadership statements, and other documents that might contain information regarding the shared services division in India. However, we could only find the executive team for both companies, with no details for smaller business divisions.
Next, we tried to search for the information regarding the organizational structure through various company databases such as Zoominfo, Crunchbase, Hoovers, Owler, and Connect2India, among others. However, none of these sources yielded any relevant information regarding the organizational structure of the shared services centers of the given companies.
Afterward, we searched through various media articles from Forbes, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Business World (India), Hindustan Times, and Economic Times for reports or interviews of companies' leadership where the organizational structure of the shared services centers might have been disclosed. Again, we did not find any publicly available information regarding companies' structure. What we found were press releases of acquisitions, partnerships, and other business announcements without any mention of organizational structure.
We also expanded our search to look for shared services divisions of the given companies in other countries. While we were able to find that Emerson has shared services specialists in the Philippines, Spain, and Portugal as well, no details regarding their roles and organizational structure could be located.
Lastly, the team tried to triangulate the information by checking various job portals such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor with the idea to directly access employees' data and organizational structure to see if they also manage the operations of the shared services centers. We were able to find the designation of Eaton's professionals with no mention of their roles and organizational structure.
In addendum, there was no information available for Emerson’s shared services technology center. The research could not identify any evidence of Emerson's shared services technology center in India or worldwide that could help with this triangulation. We, therefore, gathered all publicly available data on job descriptions and employee names connected to Eaton’s shared services division in India and worldwide. We could find that Vivek Singh, who is the center head of Eaton India, is responsible for the company's global shared services center in India. While we were able to identify a few other leadership names for Eaton India’s shared services center, there was no detailed information found regarding the responsibilities and reporting of these leaders in India and worldwide.
We, therefore, gathered all available helpful findings, including publicly accessible job descriptions and relevant high-level executive positions in India and worldwide. We have outlined these and other findings above.

Organizational Structure: Ingersoll Rand

Ingersoll Rand India lists Sidambaram R as Manager of Payroll for Finance Shared Services. Relevant job positions connected to Ingersoll Rand's global shared services division also include Director of Infrastructure Shared Services, Sales Order Management, and Accounts Payable Coordinator. These and other findings are outlined below.

  • The company's latest annual report shows the same level of leadership information with no specific details regarding smaller divisions/business segments.

Research Strategy

After conducting a thorough research of Ingersoll Rand's corporate website, social network profiles and business intelligence records, we found no publicly available data on its shared services division structure either in India or worldwide.

We first researched the company's LinkedIn profiles to directly access its employees' data and organizational structure. We found both the company's India and global company profiles. However, these were not entirely accessible to the public and most employee profiles were locked, requiring Premium account privileges to view. We therefore gathered all publicly available data on job descriptions and employee names connected to Ingersoll Rand's shared services division in India and worldwide. We also tried an alternative search using LinkedIn's search function but this returned the same locked results.

Next, we looked at Ingersoll Rand's corporate website and leadership section. The corporate website only showed the executive team for Ingersoll Rand worldwide with no details for smaller business divisions. We found no publicly available leadership structure for Ingersoll Rand India, its technology center, or its shared services division. We also looked at the company's annual reports but found the same high level of leadership information. Therefore, we noted the most relevant job positions such as VPs overseeing India operations and strategy/business development to include in our findings.

Lastly, we looked at business intelligence resources regarding Ingersoll Rand's leadership team and structure connected to its shared services division. We researched the company's profiles in Crunchbase, Zoom Info, Reuters, BusinessWire, American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM), Great Place to Work in India and others. We also conducted a press search among relevant business media including Business World India edition and Economic Times India. None of these sources yielded relevant information regarding Ingersoll Rand's shared services division structure either in India or worldwide.

In summary, due to lack of publicly available information from the company's website and annual reports as well as restrictions on its LinkedIn records, we found no definite data on Ingersoll Rand's shared services division structure either in India or worldwide.
