Sales Training Industry Salaries: CEOs

As indicated in the spreadsheet, the average salary and compensation bands for CEOs of US-based startups with revenues between $1 million and $5 million in the Northeast US region, Central US area and West Coast area is $197,553, $177,040 and $173,126 respectively. Below is a methodology that we used to find the figures presented in this research.

METHODOLOGY

We started the research for checking for publicly available direct information on the salaries requested. In this case, we checked in reputable platforms like Forbes and News Week. However, we could not find information on the salaries of non-founder CEOs of startups based in the US.

The next strategy was to check in Payscale, which provided us with the average CEO salary in the US. Our assumption is that the data that shows the salary for the CEO in the US is applicable for all industries and can, therefore, present the remuneration for the non-founder CEOs of US startups with annual revenues of between $1 million and $5 million.

We then used the same platform to find the average salary for CEOs in the Northeast area, which includes NY, BOS and PHL areas. We then added the figures presented in Payscale to find the average salary and additional compensation.

Average salary:
(NY: $206,195) + (BOS: $207,572) + (PHL: $178,893) = 592,660/3 = $197,553

Additional Compensation:
$51,988 + $67,407 + $30,723 = 150118/3 = $50,039

We calculated the average salary for CEOs in the Central US area. From Payscale, we found the CEO salaries in CHI, TX, CO.

Average Salary Calculation:
(CHI: $199,367) + (TX: $174,551) + (CO: $157,203) = 531121/3 = $177,040

Additional Compensation Calculation:
$50,421 + $49,025 + $50,639 = 150,085/3 = $50,028

We calculated the average salary for CEOs in the West Coast region. From Payscale, we found the CEO salaries in SF/PA, POR.

Average Salary Calculation:
(SF: $200,131) + (PA: $168,687) + (POR: $150,561) = 519379/3 = $173,126

Additional Compensation Calculation:
$50,305 + $62,500 + $39,009 = 151814/3 = $50,604

SALARY AND COMP BANDS FOR NON-FOUNDER CEOS OF UNITED STATES BASED STARTUPS WITH ANNUAL REVENUE BETWEEN $1 MILLION AND $5 MILLION.

Sales Training Industry Salaries: Customer Success/Account Managers

Since there is very limited information found on the average salary of customer success or account managers in the sales training sector, we have provided the median salary data across all the industries. Based on available data for all the industries, the average customer success manager's annual salary is $66,657. Meanwhile, the industry-wide median salary of account managers is $52,673. Specific to the sales training sector, the Richardson company offers sales training services in the Philadelphia area and the company's senior account executive's base pay ranges from $59K - $65K. In the case of the Brook Group, the company provides sales training services and gives its senior account managers a salary of $71,471 in the North Carolina area. All of the available details across the industries were inputted in the linked spreadsheet for the customer success job position and the account manager role.

METHODOLOGY

As the specified job position might have a different name in some job postings, we first looked for the typical roles and responsibilities that are attached to the account manager or the customer success manager job. Once we have defined these roles, we then considered the job positions that have the same responsibilities in our research scope. We then searched for the salary or compensation bands for customer success, account managers, or similar positions in the sales training industry in several sources for each US city specified. We looked first for directly available information in sources like SHRM, Topix, Ceridian, Human Capital Online, and other similar sites; business-related sites such as Forbes, Business Insider, and others; research sites like Pew Research, Gartner, and others; press release sources such as from Cision, Newswire, and others; media outlets such as Huffington Post, CNBC, and others; consulting sites such as Deloitte, PWC, and other relevant sources. Based on this search approach, we were not able to find directly available data on the salary and compensation bands of the customer success or account managers in the sales training industry. What we found are the average salary figures for these positions across all industry types. The specific sales training industry's salary for these two positions were not found in these sources.
We then tried to narrow down our search by looking for the top sales training companies in the industry. Once we found the companies, we checked their relevant job postings for the account manager or customer success positions in several job listing sites such as Payscale, Ziprecruiter, Glassdoor, Indeed, Salary, Monster, Jobstar, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Salary Expert, and similar job databases. We hoped to find the salaries offered by these sales training companies for the account manager, customer success manager, or related positions. We also checked if there are salary differences across the specified US locations, as well as between funding rounds. Using this approach, we were able to obtain several salary data figures for the relevant jobs in various locations. However, the salary figures were not specific to the cities indicated. Given this, we have chosen representative cities for the specified geographical sections to represent the salary figures in those areas. Some of the companies also do not have job listings for the account or customer success managers in the job posting sites. Given this, the salaries for some companies were not available and the data that we have obtained are limited to some sales training companies that have listings in the sites above.
We also checked the websites of the sales training companies to determine if they have listed any salary information for the specified positions. However, this data was not affiliated with any sites. What we found are general job openings and the list of responsibilities.
We also tried to look for HR salary questionnaires and employee surveys if there are compensation data that can be found in the findings. We looked for surveys from Larimer, Inside, Gallup, and others. However, the survey findings do not contain the required salary data. What we found were qualitative and number-based ratings survey findings.
Given this, the salary information we obtained for the sales training industry is limited only to the salary data that was available on a few job posting sites and in general industry salary reports. Meanwhile, as a helpful finding, we have also provided the available salaries of the customer success manager and account manager roles for some of the specified cities. However, these salaries already encompass the whole industry and not specific to the sales training industry. The section below contains our findings.

Sales Training Industry Salaries: Graphic Designers

The typical average salary for graphic designers in the tech industry in the cities New York, Chicago and San Francisco were estimated to be $58,545, $60,503 and $75,768 per annum respectively.

Methodology

To find out the requested information, we began by looking into salary bench marking reports for tech industry or sales training industry from reputable consultancies such as McKinsey, PWC, BC, Bain, Deloitte, Accenture and also specialized sites such as roberthalf.com, dice.com, and industry insights report from the drum. Most of the reports were behind a paywall hence could not be useful. Some of the accessible reports did not have any information for the comparatively smaller segment of staff training. Since we had to provide data for either the sales training industry or tech industry, availability of information prompted us to choose the tech industry. However, these reports provided information related to the core roles of technology at the national level. Data that could satisfy all three criteria of region, industry, and role could not be found.
Therefore, we decided to triangulate the information by looking at tech companies from cities from each for each region. This was done because, as mentioned before, due to the unavailability of region-wide information. Instead, they were available on a national basis.
To find out city data, we looked into sites such as Payscale, Glassdoor, and Indeed, etc. We first tried to locate some VC-backed tech companies in this city from sites such as Pitchbook, Crunchbase, and CB Insights, so that salary differences between funding rounds could be located. However, most of these VC-backed companies, having fewer employees, had very less salary related data. Available information for some unicorns did not provide any difference in salaries according to funding levels.
Therefore, we selected companies which were comparatively bigger and had significantly available salary information. For each of the cities of New York, Chicago, and San Fransisco, we selected three tech companies and calculated their average pay and provided their combined compensation band ranges. We also provided additional information on the overall graphic designer salaries and compensation bands in these three cities.
