RESEARCH STRATEGY

As the "education" portion of the LinkedIn page does not show the month of graduation, we have calculated the "number of months out of college" by counting from the following year onward and add the total number of "complete years" plus six months (as we are approaching six complete months this year). For examples, as Lance Holt graduated in 2010, the total number of months since he graduated from college is 102 months [12*8+ 6 (2011 to 2018 plus 6 months)]. The formula has been provided in each cell in column J.
The "average tenure" is calculated by examining the average time that the individual spent at each job (in terms of months). For examples, as Lance Holt spent 44 months, 59 months, and 3 months respectively for three jobs, his average tenure is 35.3 months [Average(44,59,3)]. The formula has been provided in each cell in column K.

Research Strategy:

We were able to compile a list of 10 people in the US on LinkedIn who hold the title of Content Specialist by scanning for relevant data through LinkedIn platform. However, we were not able to obtain the months since the graduation of Lisa Veeck, Jennifer Martin, Gina Morlock and James Beattie and hence"Not specified year graduated" was added to their respective rows on Column J. To obtain the "Average Tenure" we added all the total number of years of working experience of the specialist and converted them into months and eventually divided the results by the total number of companies that each specialist has worked for.

Research Strategy

To compile the list of 10 US-based content specialists from LinkedIn, we identified the profiles of content specialists using the appropriate filters on LinkedIn; this helped us to ascertain their current job profile, location, job title, and relevant experience.

In our research, we noted that none of the profiles featured the month of graduation completion; instead, the profiles highlighted the duration of education with the year of completion of graduation. To standardize our findings, we considered the last day of the graduation completion year (31st December) to calculate the number of months out of college. For example, if an individual studied from 2013-2016, we considered the total number of months after graduation, i.e., from 31st Dec-2016 to 30th June 2019 (currently ongoing) or 30 months.

Additionally, for most of the profiles it is noted that individuals have a greater overall work experience than the number of months post-college completion, i.e., they may have started working at an early age, prior to completion of their college education; for example as a freelancer, intern, assistant, kid reporter, etc. To standardize our findings and calculate the average tenure of work, we considered the relevant work experience that involved professional or academic skills, i.e., we have considered the experience of 6 months as an 'intern,' but excluded the work experience as a child artist, volunteer, or a football referee. To support our calculations, we have provided the total months of experience, and the total number of jobs switched for calculating the average tenure of each profile.

RESEARCH STRATEGY

All the information was obtained from the LinkedIn profile of the individuals. The top job skills were identified from the Industry Knowledge section of the LinkedIn profile. Only the year of graduation has been provided in the profiles. In cases where the year of starting the first job and the year of graduation were the same, we assumed the month of graduation to be the month prior to starting the first job. For all others, the month of graduation was assumed to be May--as it is the month when most people in the US graduate--and the months since graduation were calculated from June onward.
Some profiles do not provide a complete history of the employment details. In such cases, we have calculated the average number of months a person stays in a job using only the jobs listed in the profile. Only jobs started after graduation have been counted. Calculations for the number of months since graduation and the average number of months spent in a job have been shown in the attached spreadsheet.
