How many residential General Contractors participate residential construction trade shows in the USA, and how much do they pay? How many major trade shows are there?
Hi! Thank you for your question about the number of residential General Contractors participating in trade shows in the USA, how much they pay to participate, and how many major trade shows there are. In short, there are over 160,000 residential construction establishments and over 100 trade shows happening in the US every year. Each show holds approximately 200-1400 booths/exhibits, which totals roughly 80,000 exhibits every year assuming single show presence. The seven major shows in the country are Build Expo, Associated General Contractors Convention, Construction Institute Summit, BATC, Every Building Conference and Expo, ECC Conference, and the IRMI Construction Risk Conference. The cost of renting a space can be around $3,500 for 10’x10’, but for larger displays, costs can go as high as $10,000-$15,000. I have provided a deep dive of my findings below.
TRADE SHOWS
The information regarding the number of residential general contractors participating in trade shows is not available. Estimating an average has also proved difficult. However, we were able to get a list of over 100 residential construction trade shows in the US. These hold from 200-1400 booths/exhibits per show. With over 100 shows every year, that is a total of over 80,000 exhibits every year on average (800 booths on average * 100 shows). However, this does not take into account those contractors that do multiple shows.
The seven major shows in the country are Build Expo, Associated General Contractors Convention, Construction Institute Summit, BATC, Every Building Conference and Expo, ECC Conference, and the IRMI Construction Risk Conference. The total number of residential construction establishments in the US is close to 160,000. It can be expected that all would attend at least one of these seven major shows in a particular year.
The cost of renting a space in a trade show is usually around 25-30% of the total cost. On average, a 10’x10’ basic exhibit can cost around $3,500. The industry average is $100-$150 per square foot for larger displays and the rentals can go as high as 35%, which would make a 10’x10’ space cost approximately $10,000 to $15,000.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, there are over 160,000 residential construction establishments and over 100 trade shows happening in the US every year. Each holds approximately 200-1400 booths/exhibits which totals roughly 80,000 exhibits every year, assuming single show presence. The seven major shows in the country are Build Expo, Associated General Contractors Convention, Construction Institute Summit, BATC, Every Building Conference and Expo, ECC Conference, and the IRMI Construction Risk Conference. The cost of renting a space can be around $3,500 for 10’x10’ but some larger displays can go as high as $10,000-$15,000.
