Research cape buffalo hunting opportunities in Africa
Hello! Thank you for your question about what the best cape buffalo hunting opportunities are. The most useful sources that I found are the forum African Hunting and Shakari Connection. In short, I've compiled a list of 10 outfitters that meet as many of your requirements as I could. Unfortunately, many of the outfitters require contacting them to find which dates they are available.
METHODOLOGY
I began my research trying to establish parameters for good outfitters. An article from Field and Stream was extremely useful in learning what types of outfitters I should look for. Through the article, I was able to learn what features an outfitters should offer, and to select outfitters that are well reviewed and attend hunting expos in the United States.
Another extremely useful resource to learning what to look for in an outfitter was Shakari Connection which is a site dedicated to educating hunters on how to book African hunts. From there extensive information and list of outfitters, I was able to start assembling a list.
I located each outfitter on the list verifying that they were located in the countries you specified, contained packages for hunting cape buffalo, and sourced their pricing. For all of the outfitters I found, there was no listing for specific dates because the outfitters will only discuss dates after an email or form is sent to them.
I then checked each outfitter for reviews to make sure that they were appropriate recommendations.
OUTFITTERS FOR CAPE BUFFALO HUNTING
Chifuti operates out of Zimbabwe. I located a forum for hunters where Chifuti has extremely positive reviews from hunters that have used their services before. They offer a range of packages that include cape buffalo hunting with varying lengths of stays. Any information about dates for booking requires contacting them. I included the pricing for their 10 day buffalo and plains game safari.
Pricing
2 x 1 – deduct $50 per day each hunter
Air Charter estimate (per plane - roundtrip)
Trophy dip and pack 1-2 species $490 or 3-10 species $690 Government taxes and fees 2% on daily rate and air charters and 4% on trophy fees VAT lodging/food = $150
Authentic African Adventures operates out of several countries, but has a safari in Botswana. I selected this based on its positive reviews on an African hunting forum.
The safari is 7 days and includes: Services of a personal professional Guide, Sight-seeing vehicle, Trip to and from Chobe National Park, Victoria Falls, Makgadigadi Pans, Serviced Accommodation, All Meals, Bottled Water, soft drink, Game drives into the Chobe National Park, Makgadigadi Pans and also Boat Cruises on the Chobe River. This trip does not include: Air travel before, during and after the contracted period of the safari, accommodation and travel charges incurred before and after the contracted period of the safari, Gratuities to professional Guide and other Staff, At Victoria Falls you are welcome to Charter a Helicopter ride over the falls. The cost for this normally would be about $100 for 23 minutes/per person and also there is Elephant back rides for $120 per person, Value added Tax @ 14%.
Located in several countries, Balla Balla Safaris has a 7 day cape buffalo safari in Zambia. Balla Balla Safaris was extremely well reviewed on an independent forum. This safari costs: 1 Hunter USD$ 6,000, 2 Hunters USD$ 5,500, 3 to 6 Hunters 5,000 / Person
and includes: Daily rates and rights to hunt Cape Buffalo & all plains game species. Availability for scheduling is only available via contacting the outfitter.
Based in Zimbabwe, SSG Safaris offers an extensive list of safari packages. Their cape buffalo special is 7 days and costs $900 per day plus taxes and fees. SSG Safaris was highly rated by users on a forum related to African Hunting. There was no information related to scheduling and can only be obtained via contact with company.
Threeways Safaris is based in Zimbabwe. While schedule availability and pricing was not listed on their site, I included Threeways because of how often it was recommended on African hunting forums.
Takeri Game Reserve is located in Zambia and comes extremely highly rated on their website and via independent forums. Their website does not list cape buffalo, but I sourced several recommendations for cape buffalo hunting with them. Their website requires emailing them for scheduling and pricing.
PH Safaris has locations in Zimbabwe and offers cape buffalo packages. Their website doesn't list packages. Instead, they have price per days plus taxes and fees. A 7 day buffalo special is $1000 per day, but there are many other tours that include cape buffalo. The comments on the thread for a 2016 promotion shows many positive reviews on this outfitter.
This outfitter was recommended on an independent forum by cape buffalo hunters. Based in Zimbabwe, they offer several different packages that include cape buffalo, but prices and scheduling are all by request. The website gives many customer recommendations as well.
Another recommendation from a forum, this outfitter offers a range of packages in Zimbabwe and Zambia. The 7 day buffalo hunt starts at $16,000 plus taxes and fees. Scheduling information is available on request.
This was a well reviewed recommendation from an African hunting forum based in Zimbabwe. This outfitter offers many different pricing options for hunts that include cape buffalo. The 10 day Buffalo & Plains game option is $1, 250 per day plus taxes and fees. This outfitter also supplies a list of contactable references and reviews for their services.
CONCLUSION
To wrap up, I've sourced 10 well reviewed outfitters for cape buffalo hunting in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, and Botswana. Whenever possible, I have included pricing. Unfortunately, none of the outfitters listed their scheduling availability.
