Renewal Committees for SoHo House, Neuehouse, Spring Street Studios, other Private Clubs
Hello! Thanks for your question about renewal committees for private clubs.
The short version is that after searching extensively through individual club websites, news articles, and press releases, I’ve determined that the information you requested is not publicly available because private clubs fiercely protect the names of those in the club and on the membership committees in order to prevent those people from being inundated with requests to join. However, I was able to learn the names of several former membership committee members of Soho House. Also, I have included as much public information for other private clubs, such as Spring Place and Neuehouse. Below you will find a deep dive of my research and methodology.
METHODOLOGY
I started by searching the websites of the three clubs you listed, but they only included information on how to apply, and what the rules are once accepted, not who is on the selection committee or how to become a member of the selection committee. Next, I did a general web search using the names of the clubs you mentioned and terms like 'renewal committee', and 'membership committee' but again found only general information. Finally, I searched for news articles and press releases about the openings of new clubs in chains you mentioned and was able to find some information about how the committee is selected as well as the names of some former committee members.
HELPFUL FINDINGS
While I could not find a direct answer to your question, I was able to gather some information about this topic, which I think will be helpful for your project.
In general it seems that the only way to get on to a membership/renewal committee is to know the person personally selected by the founder of the club to head up the committee or the founder of the club him/herself. Clubs intentionally keep information about who is on the committee a secret because, as mentioned by the website Hollywood Reporter, "the muster of how to get in remains one of [a club's] mysterious and attractive features".
SOHO HOUSE
- Steve Nolte - Member Relations
- Stacy Bowers - General Manager
- Tino DeMartino - Member Relations
- Markus Anderson - Global Membership Director
- John McIlwee - Business Member
- Samantha Stone - General Membership Director
This article also listed a couple former committee members for various SoHo House locations:
- Celine Khavarani, VP VIP Relations, Prada; Former LA committee member
- Matthew Rhys, Actor; Former London committee member
I was able to find a bit more information about the Toronto SoHo House, including a partial list of the committee tasked with finding the founding members and the fact that the committee included 30 people total. Founding committee members included:
- Trinity Jackman, Heiress
- Jeff Remedios, Indie Record Exec
- Cameron Bailey, Toronto International Film Festival Artistic Director
- Anwar Mukhayesh, Interior Designer
- Shane Carter, Sony Music President
- Ashleigh Dempster, 'Society Queen Bee'
- Nicole Kidman, Actress
- Stephen Daldry, Director
- Alan Cumming, Actor
- Griffin Dunne, Actor
- Zac Posen, Fashion Designer
SPRING PLACE
The Spring Place Club list of founder members:
Although the article did not provide names, The Daily Beast mentions that Spring Place expects to admit an additional 100 members per month, who will be vetted by an “executive membership committee” comprising of 30 people. These 30 person committee are “quite influential in the creative industries” and who meet every two months to “evaluate member criteria.”
NEUEHOUSE
The only information on Neuehouse I was able to find was the names of the three co-founders: James O'Reilly, Joshua Abram, and Alan Murray.
SPRING STREET STUDIOS
I was not able to find any information about the committee members or selection process at Spring Street Studios.
OTHER PRIVATE CLUBS
- The Arts Club - membership committee overseen by Gwyneth Paltrow
- Albert's - requires that all new members be recommended by existing members so that all new members somehow connect back to the founding partners or committee.
- Home House - Amanda Elghag, Membership Executive
- Magnises - Members come from fashion, finance, tech and other industries. Potential members are asked to have a referral from an existing member and a list that includes what school they attended, what they do for work, where they like to shop and where they like to eat.
POSSIBLE CONTINUED RESEARCH
While these clubs do not publicly announce the names of their selection committee members, many of them do disclose their criteria for admission, which may be helpful if you are preparing to apply for membership.
SUMMARY
To wrap it up, after searching extensively through club websites, news articles, and press releases, a direct answer to your question is not publicly available. By their nature these clubs are secretive and unlikely to publicly announce the names selection committee members in order to protect them from the avalanche of membership requests that would be sure to follow such a disclosure. However, I learned the names of several employees and former committee members for SoHo House, Neuehouse, and other clubs.
