Remote Desk Key Competitors

The five competitors to Remote Desk that offer secure workstation monitoring for remote workers are the following: Teramind, Time Doctor, Vericlock, ActivTrack, and Interguard. The required details of these competitors were all entered into the linked spreadsheet under the "Remote Desk key competitors" tab, rows 1 to 4, and under columns C to G.

methodology

We searched through several information technology and software-related websites such as Tech Crunch, Tech Radar, G2 Crowd, The Verge, CNET, Venture Beat, ZD Net, and other related sources to determine if we can find similar platforms such as the one being offered by Remote Desk. Based on this search, we found several software solutions that have the same features as Remote Desk. However, we did not find any direct list that rank Remote Desk's key competitors.
We then looked through several sites that typically compile and compare competing software solutions such as G2 Crowd, Capterra, Venture Radar, and other similar sites to identify if there is already an existing list of Remote Desk's key competitors. However, the lists provided by these sites do not fully contain all of Remote Desk's competitors. Some non-competitors were included in the lists as well.
Next, we searched Owler, Hoovers, Craft, and other company directories to determine if the key competitors of Remote Desk are indicated there. We did find several potential competitors from this search. However, upon checking, some of the companies listed are not competitors based on their main offerings.
Given this, we consolidated the potential Remote Desk competitors that we found after employing the search strategies mentioned above. We then individually checked the offerings of these competitors to determine if they provide the same remote work monitoring solutions as Remote Desk. After checking, we have decided that the following companies were the ones that offer the closest types of solutions as Remote Desk. We then derived that the companies below were the key competitors of Remote Desk.

Remote Desk Key Competitors

We have identified the following key competitors of Remote Desk based on the similarity of their features to what Remote Desk is offering. These companies operate in the US.

TERAMIND

Similar to Remote Desk, Teramind offers a secure and user-focused solution to enable the secure monitoring of employees' workstations. As with Remote Desk, the company's platform also simplifies employee data collection to facilitate the identification of security threats and fraudulent activities. Teramind's software can also help in tracking employee productivity and policy compliance. The company operates in the US.

TIME DOCTOR

Like the platform that Remote Desk offers, Time Doctor provides a secure platform that identifies employees and monitors their activities and working times on their computers. Its platform provides personnel productivity reports for specific periods as well. It also monitors the websites and the applications that were accessed by the employees. Time Doctor's solution was specifically developed for companies with remote employees to ensure that employees are working on designated tasks during their working hours. The company has US-based clients.

VERICLOCK

VeriClock also offers a similar solution to Remote Desk. Its cloud-based platform can be used by businesses to securely identify and monitor their employees' working time on their computers. Remote Desk Competitors Part 1

The requested information for Teramind has been entered into the attached spreadsheet. Teramind is headquartered in Miami, Florida and currently employs 86 people. The company was awarded a 2018 Finalist for the "Best Cyber Security Company of the Year" by Cyber Security Awards.

METHODOLOGY

Although we were able to determine that Teramind has more than 2,000 clients worldwide, data specific to their names or any new client onboarding was not available. First, we searched the company's official website, specifically the "customer review" page for details about their clients. Despite publishing their customer reviews on the site, data around the companies they work with, such as the name, is unavailable.

Next, we examined news sites that publish articles about Teramind to see if any companies are talking about using it. Such media sites include Cision PR News, Business News Daily and more. However, through this approach, we only managed to locate the total number of clients and industries they work for, but failed to identify the clients who use the employee monitoring software.

As a last resort, after searching extensively, we combed through various review sites such as Capterra, GetApp, PCMag, and others in an attempt to find individuals who have given their reviews about Teramind and ultimately, the companies they work with, but again this search did not provide any desired results. We did find individuals' analysis of their experiences with Teramind systems, their names, and titles. Unfortunately, there were no records of organizations they work for to help us in determining Teramind's clients by names.

The requested information for Time Doctor has been entered into the attached spreadsheet. Time Doctor was founded in 2010 and currently employees 60 people, all working remotely. The company offers one software product for $9.99 per user/per month.

pricing

Time Doctor offers a free 14-day trial and then has one plan for $9.99 per user/per month.

Company Overview

Time Doctor does not have a physical office. The company believes in remote work and everyone, including the company founders, works from home. The company currently has over 60 employees globally.

To determine if Time Doctor has hired any senior management in the last six months, we began our search by reviewing the company's Linkedin page and looked for anyone in a senior management role. The members of the management team we identified on Linkedin have all been with the company for a number of years. We next reviewed Time Doctor's website for information on any team members and for any news relating to new hires. The website did not provide any further information. Finally, we did a press search, in case there was any mention of the company hiring any senior management in the last month, but this turned up no results.

Crunchbase and Craft, provide financial and investment information for companies, we therefore searched both websites for information on Time Doctor's investments. Neither source showed that Time Doctor has ever invested in other companies. We next searched Time Doctor's blog posts to see if they mentioned any investment activity. Finally, we did a press search to see if Time Doctor was mentioned as investing in any companies in the last 24 months, but we were unable to find any investment activity for the company.

Time Doctor is a private company and does not have to release financial information. We have provided a revenue estimate of $4 million.

news search

We conducted a news search but could not find any information related to any product releases, partnerships, awards and honors, or new clients in the last two years. The company only lists one product on their website and it was launched in 2010. We next searched for any news on partnerships the company has made in the last two years, however we were unable to find any partnerships that Time Doctor currently has. We search the company's website, blog and trusted news sites but were unable to find any information.

Clients

We searched Time Doctor's website, as sometimes companies will provide information on the number of clients they have and any significant clients currently using their products. Time Doctor's main website did not provide any information about their clients. Next we searched the Time Doctor blog to see if they provided any case studies of their clients. Finally, we did a press search to see if any companies are talking about using Time Doctor but again this search did not provide any results.

Products

Time Doctor offers a time tracking management software. Time Doctor's software includes, time tracking, a distraction alert, website and application monitoring, integration across platforms, screenshot monitoring, client login, payroll, GPS tracking, and API. All the features can be customized and turned on and off as desired by the employer.

Remote Desk Competitors Part 3

While we were not able to completely/fully address this request due to the unavailability of data, we found data on the pricing, the number of offices, revenue estimates, client types, and product details of VeriClock. This information has been provided in column E, rows 5-27 ('Remote Desk Key Competitors' tab) of the attached spreadsheet.

METHODOLOGY

While the information to address some part of this request was readily available, we could not provide any information into VeriClock's investments, recent partnerships, recent senior hires, new product releases, awards and honors, and some client details.

To address these missing parts, we started off by searching the company's website and blogs for information such as recent recruitment of senior staff/employees, investments, partnerships, and awards. We found no relevant information from these sources. The company's website had no press section; it only had a blog site/section. Moreover, its blog was last updated in 2015. The company's website had a few details on its clients through the industries its clients come from. But there was no information into its client count nor the notable ones. Some clients in some industries had complimented them, which include Maxx North America and Rada Resurfacing from the energy and mining industry and concrete and paving industry respectively, but none of them were notable.

We researched further by searching its social media pages, especially Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, yet we found no relevant information. Its Facebook page showed that it was listed in PC Magazine's 'The Best Time Tracking Software for 2019' award; however, it was not listed as the editor's choice. The Facebook page also had an 'Info and Ad' section, but had no content. We wanted to go through its ads to find any partnerships as companies often mention these, but there were no ads to be found. Also, the company's Twitter page is rarely updated.

Next, we scoured through company directories like Crunchbase, Craft.co, and Owler. We searched for VeriClock's investments, new clients, and notable clients, but we found no relevant information. Generally, these directories had little information on VeriClock, apart from basic company information, employee count, and revenue figures. Crunchbase had a news aggregating section on VeriClock; however, the most content was dated 2017.

Lastly, we searched through media sources, news aggregators, industry articles, and review sites (such as Glassdoor, G2 Crowd, PR Newswire, and PC Magazine) for any insight into VeriClock's recent senior hires, investments, awards, and client details. However, there was no relevant insights that we could gather. The majority of the information included software comparisons and reviews. We also tried to find possible partnerships and/or new clients by searching for its advertising history/efforts from ad databases like Moat, but there was no information.

In general, it appears that VeriClock has a low media presence. This could be the reason why these details were publicly unavailable. Thus, we entered 'N/A' in these cells in the attached spreadsheet. Note that the revenue and employee were expressed as ranges of data due to conflicting figures across different sources.

KEY FINDINGS

VeriClock is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Its product is cloud-based employee time tracking solution with many features including data analytics. Its pricing comes at $10 per month as an account fee and its employee count ranges from 9-50 and equally, its revenue is an estimated range of $1 million and $6.8 million. The completed spreadsheet can be accessed from here.

We compiled most of the required information from ActivTrak's official portals. The company does not provide its revenue but according to company profiling databases such as Craft, Crunchbase, or Angel.co, its estimated annual revenue is $4 million. Also, a search through media resources, ActivTrak's official portals, sector-specific blogs, and company profiling sites shows no indication that ActivTrak has made any investments in the past 24 months, or any time before. While ActivTrak does not identify its new clients, the featured case studies on its website suggest that it signed up Biorev, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, Linden Care Pharmaceuticals, and Parry International within the past two years. Kindly refer to column F, Rows 5-27 of the attached spreadsheet for more information.

While we were not able to fully provide the requested information, we were able to find information on the pricing, the number of offices, revenue estimates, client details, and product details of InterGuard Software Suites. This information has been provided in column G, rows 5-27 of the Remote Desk Key Competitors' tab of the attached spreadsheet.

METHODOLOGY

While the information to address some parts of this request was readily available, we could not provide information pertaining InterGuard's recent senior hire, recent investments, new product releases, partnerships, new clients, awards, and the number of clients.

To address these missing parts, we started by searching the official website, product page, and blog of InterGuard Software. There, we searched for any information on these missing parts but found no information. The blog mostly had industry-wide reports and is not updated often. The product page was mostly about the products it offers and had no detail on new product releases. We also checked the "industry" section of the website where it highlighted the various industries it serves. However, there was no information on the client count.

We also expanded to search through the company's social media pages, especially Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn but the uploaded contents were mainly industry-wide articles. We tried to check for ads and announcements, partnership details, recruitment, awards or product launches, but this information was not available.

Next, we searched company directories and databases like CrunchBase, ZoomInfo, and Owler. There, we searched for any information on InterGuard's recent senior hires, recent investments, new product releases, new clients, awards, and the number of clients. However, we found no information. Owler and CrunchBase do highlight information on the recent investments, recent news and press releases, partnerships, and social media posts. However, there was no record on the company's investments and partnerships.

We tried to search through industry reports, news articles, and review reports for any information or insights on InterGuard Software's recent senior hire, recent investments, new product releases, partnerships, new clients, awards, and the number of clients. These sources included PR Newswire, G2 Crowd, Glassdoor, Capterra, Forbes, etc., but there was no relevant information. We also tried to find out about its partnerships by checking through ad databases like Moat but the company was not listed.

As a last resort, we found that InterGuard Software Suites is a product of Awareness Technologies. Apparently, it is Awareness Technologies' most popular product in its portfolio because the majority of its announcements, press articles, industry articles, and social media updates revolved around InterGuard Software Suites. Hence, we assumed that InterGuard Software was its main business segment. To this effect, based on the available data, we provided the details on Awareness technologies' number of clients, the number of locations, and awards and recognition for InterGuard Software. The remaining parts were fiilled with N/A.

KEY FINDINGS

InterGuards Software Suites costs $8 per user per month. It has 11-50 employees and an annual revenue estimate of $5.2 million. While its clients span across various industries from financial services to healthcare, some of its notable clients include Allstate, American Cancer Society, the US Department of Justice, IBM, etc. The completed spreadsheet can be accessed from here.

Remote Work Desktop Monitoring Industry

As remote work becomes more commonplace and more remote-only companies sprout up, new and improved tools will be needed to manage and monitor a company's employees around the world. Below we discuss the types of remote work management and monitoring software out there, and discuss trends, challenges, and the future of this industry.

Trending Areas

Remote work monitoring tools include file-sharing platforms, communication, project management, time-tracking tools, adaptive analytics tools, and secure data-access technologies. These tools help workers complete tasks outside of the office, and help companies know that employees are effectively doing their work.
Two areas that are quickly growing include the relatively new adaptive analytics and secure data access areas. Adaptive analytics tools, often with AI on the back-end, enable workers to input contract data and the system arranges accounts and tasks for them instead of the worker doing time-consuming actions like making tasks on their own. Adaptive analytics can also help to assess anything that affects performance, such as worker reliability. Secure data access tools including VPNs, electronic signing, locked PDFs, and secure messaging with 'read receipts' make management much more comfortable.

Growing Or Declining?

The remote work monitoring and management industry is growing because remote work is growing overall. According to a recent poll, 43% of US employees worked remotely at least part-time in 2016, up from 39% in 2012. Full-time remote work from established companies has grown by 140% since 2005, which is 10x faster than other work. In 2016, 31% of workers did their jobs outside of the office, up from 24% in 2012. They also found that 37% of people would quit their jobs for one that allowed for any remote work.

The number of companies going completely remote is growing too. This is causing a surge in the number of remote work technologies such as Slack and Trello.
Employee monitoring is on the rise, with nearly 80% of major companies monitoring their employees’ use of email, Internet, and phone. 94% of organizations have deployed some form of monitoring on their systems and 93% monitor access that their employees have to sensitive data.

Issues

Thirty eight percent of remote workers lack adequate security for their work when working in public. Eighteen percent state that if they were the employer at their firm, they would be concerned about IT security. Larger companies often have security technology for their remote teams, but smaller companies often overlook this. This is dangerous because 72% of breaches occur at small companies with under 100 employees. To solve this problem, it is not enough for smaller companies to depend on security software and hardware, rather they need to develop a unified security policy for both in-house and remote workers, such as restricting the data sent and received over public Wi-Fi networks. There needs to be more tools and companies that help small companies develop remote work policies.
The issue of employee privacy also must be considered when setting up remote desktop monitoring software. The EU recently passed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), meaning that organizations that in some way or another work with data or tools from the EU must comply with this law that protects their employee’s privacy. This is why new monitoring software gives users options to address privacy concerns, such as disabling recording for specific websites and applications and to only record business applications. Some software enables employers to hide their presence or make it very apparent. The EU is not alone in having laws like this. In states like Delaware and Connecticut, employers must inform their employees when they are being monitored electronically.
There may not be enough remote monitoring company rules that monitor gruesome or politically-charged content which an employee may share on communication channels. If a company fails to act, they are in violation of labor laws and can be referred to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Ironically, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) essentially bans monitoring of electronic communications (with some exceptions). This means businesses must use good judgment to know what communication channels can be monitored, such as public Slack channels.

Problems solved by this software and the future

Employee monitoring is needed in remote workplaces for two main reasons: maintaining data security levels and assessing employee productivity. The leading cause of data breaches are not outside hackers, rather the company’s own employees.
As AI is being heavily used in adaptive analytics, it will become more prevalent in managing the remote workforce. In the future, AI will answer questions, prioritize tasks, and do other things managers and workers spend a lot of time on. Slack, the communication tool, is implementing AI to help prioritize channels and conversations, and in the future, it will know who the employee wants to talk to and who they should be talking to. Other companies using AI to bring in the future for remote work include Glint, which listens to employee feedback and delivers insights that help companies retain talent, and Teleopti, which launched a workforce management tool that intelligently asses shifts to better help virtual contact centers.

E-learning tools are very important in remote work management. In the future, this will be more virtual through the help of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. This would solve problems like scale, value, and accessibility when compared to onsite instruction.

Upwork Remote Desktop Management

Upwork uses its Desktop App, the Work Diary, and a time-tracking tool to offer remote desktop tracking services to its freelancers and clients. Upwork also provides opportunity for clients with Jira accounts to post jobs via Jira and track the activities of freelancers working on their projects. An overview of these services is provided below.

Upwork Desktop App

Upwork provides its remote desktop tracking services through the Upwork Desktop App. It includes the Work Diary which has a time-tracker. The Work Diary provides evidence of level of activity to help in documenting the work done by freelancers. Freelancers can also chat in real time with their clients using the Desktop App. Upwork’s time-tracker supports “Hourly Payment Protection program” by providing proof of work done by freelancers so that clients can monitor the work and pay only for their authorized work. The time-tracker is available only for jobs which are paid hourly.
Using the Work Diary is optional, a freelancer can decide to make use of it while working on a particular project. The time tracker is only activated when it is turned on. A snapshot of the computer screen of the freelancer’s computer is captured by the Desktop App together with “corresponding mouse clicks and keystroke activity” at intervals of around ten minutes and uploaded to the Work Diary. The screenshots and activities are uploaded automatically through the Work Diary and shared with the client. The Desktop App can also obtain information from the freelancer’s operating system to confirm if the freelancer is active or inactive.
A freelancer could also decide to make use of the webcam feature which captures the freelancer’s images together with the computer screen snapshots. This option can be turned off by the freelancer at any point while working on a specific project. A freelancer can delete screenshots and activity logs so that they will be excluded from their weekly billed invoice. The Desktop App can display the time in three different views, “Current Session, Today, and This Week”. The “Current Session” view is like a stopwatch which counts the time after the freelancer logs in. TheToday and This Week” views are used to confirm the time billed.

Integration with Jira

For clients who have a Jira account, Upwork provides integration which enables them to post their jobs directly from Jira using the “Upwork Job Post For Jira app” and track the activities of freelancers working on hourly jobs.
Jira software is used in making user stories, planning, and distributing tasks among software teams. It can provide full visibility for a team in prioritizing and discussing their work in full setting. Jira can also be integrated with other developer tools including Confluence and Bitbucket.

Indian Organizations/Associations to Pitch for Comedy

There was no available information on Indian professional organizations that sponsor large events for their own employees, and may be interested in hiring an entertainer. The AIF aims to end poverty in India and hosts events such as the following: "the American India Foundation Annual Bay Area Gala, the Maternal and Newborn Survival Initiative (MANSI) at Gala, Modern Indian Dinner and Discourse," and other events. The India Foundation of Metropolitan Princeton aims to promote the Indian way of life in the US and they sponsor the following events: "Laughter Yoga, Musical Evening with Sangeet Sandhya, Diwali Celebrations, India Day, Holi Celebrations, IFMP Navratri," picnics, and other large events.

METHODOLOGY

We began our search by looking for ten US-based Indian professional organizations or associations that host banquets or large events for their employees, and who may be interested in hiring an entertainer. We then searched for these organizations in various sources such as in Asian Indian affairs-related sites such as Nriol, NRI Realty News, Rediff, Bollywoodsargam, India Times, Sify, Hindustan Times, Maps of India, and other relevant sites. Based on this search approach, we were not able to find any information that directly list US-based Indian professional organizations that host banquet for their employees. What we found from these sources were several sources that contain US-based Indian professional organizations or associations. There were no mention on whether these professional organizations were hosting banquets or large events for their employees, and may be interested in hiring an entertainer.
We then checked the official websites of the professional organizations found to determine if they hold large events for their employees. We also checked any related press releases or announcements in their social media sites or in other relevant sources. Based on this approach, what we found were general events and conferences that these organizations typically host for their members. We were not able to find banquets or large events that they host for their employees.
Given this limited information, we changed our strategy and tried to look for professional event or teambuilding organizers that specifically cater to Indian professional associations' employee events. We searched the Sulekha site, Hungamacity, Explara, and other sites that list event planners that mostly serve the Indian community in the US. We then looked through the websites of these event planners to determine if they have listed any Indian professional organizations or associations as their clients. However, we were not able to find any Indian professional associations or organizations in their list of clients. Most of them also do not have official sites or any social media presence. What we found were their list of services and what kind of events they normally organize.
We then concluded that privacy and the internal nature of the information could be the reasons why the information on the list of Indian professional organizations that host events for their employees was not found. The rest of the Indian professional organizations on the NRI Realty News site can also be contacted to determine if they need entertainers for their events.
