Railroad Social Media Comparison
BNSF Railway, CSX Transportation, Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern all use their social media pages to share company information, news and updates. CSX Transportation and Union Pacific Railroad both post videos about safety while BNSF Railway and Norfolk Southern both post behind the scene videos. The content across all the social media pages is consistent between the different platforms for each company. This information and the rest of my findings can be found on the spreadsheet.
Most of the information came from assumptions made from each company's social media pages. Information that was not available on the social media pages, was located through news articles or company press releases. There was not much listed about who creates their media for the social media pages except for CSX Transportation's MullenLowe video campaign.
After reviewing the numbers, I have determined Norfolk South has a slightly better social media presence followed by Union Pacific Railroad. Union Pacific, CSX Transportation, and BNSF all have more followers on LinkedIn than Norfolk Southern. Despite this, Norfolk has more Facebook users and followers, more Instagram posts and followers and more twitter posts but only about half as many twitter followers as Union Pacific. Given these metrics, it is safe to say that Norfolk Southern seems to do media marketing the best though the others are not far behind.
