Hi! Thanks for letting us help put together a 7-day itinerary for a trip on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Using Kenai Peninsula and Alaska tourism sites, I've put together 7 days of activities, with travel times and sightseeing options included. Read on for my rundown!

OVERVIEW

Alaska and Kenai Peninsula-centric tourism sites offer a lot of activities to narrow into an itinerary; if you need additional options beyond what I've included here, these sites should have all you need.

I've organized the itinerary in chunks, with 2-3 days of activities centered on each city you mentioned. This should make the itinerary fairly modular and flexible, since drive times between cities are mostly manageable.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Homer

The first day in Homer I've reserved for a wildlife/coastal tour. This trip also reserves some time in the middle of the day for sightseeing in the small coastal town of Seldovia.

Day 2: Homer

Alaska Bear Adventures offers day trips flying out of Homer to Katmai National Park for bear viewing -- this option combines sightseeing from the plane with nature viewing at the destination.

A day trip with ABA should offer enough time later in the day to visit the Islands & Ocean Visitor Center, a facility that includes a few trails and educational options.

Driving distance to next location: 75 miles, 1 hr 30 mins

Day 3: Soldotna

The Clam Gulch State Recreation Area sits on the highway between Homer and Soldotna; it could be a good stop on the way for a leg stretch and clam-digging experience.

The Soldotna area is also home to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, where visitors can kayak and hike. If that doesn't take up too much of the day, the nearby Slikok Creek offers nature trails, boardwalks, and salmon viewing at certain times of year.

Day 4: Soldotna

Fish On Charters offers day-long chartered fishing trips out of Kenai (a 20-minute drive from Soldotna), for halibut and salmon. The fishing trip also gives visitors plenty of sightseeing opportunities along the way.

Driving distance to next location: 110 miles, 2 hr 14 mins

Day 5: Portage/Whittier Area

Johnson Trail's North Access, part of the peninsula's "most developed trail system," is on the way from Soldotna to the Portage/Whittier area -- it's a great intermediate stop. In the Portage area, the Trail of Blue Ice makes "a great afternoon trip" for those with bike access.

In Portage, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a wildlife rescue that cares for "orphaned, injured, and ill animals," giving visitors a chance to see animals a little closer than they could in other spots.

Driving distance to next location: 78 miles, 1 hr 28 mins

Day 6: Seward

Seward is home to Stoney Creek Canopy Adventures, a zipline tour of the surrounding rain forest that would make a good morning activity.

In the afternoon, the Alaska Sealife Center offers behind-the-scenes tours and "encounters" with animals including puffins and octopi.

Several trails also start near Seward, including the North and South Beach trails and the Alpine Trail.

Day 7: Seward

The last day of the trip is dedicated to an 8 1/2-hour cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park. This trip includes a shore stop at Fox Island Lodge and a "free wild Alaska salmon and prime rib dinner."

CONCLUSION

I've compiled a 7-day itinerary for a trip on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, including a boat tour, sightseeing, and bear viewing near Homer; kayaking, hiking, and charter fishing around Soldotna; wildlife viewing, glacier biking and hiking around Portage; and hiking, ziplining, and animal encounters in Seward. The itinerary concludes with a full-day cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park.
