Research Strategy

Based on the request, we first started by looking into companies in the exhibition industry and were able to find information related to the firms in the respective industry. We were able to find all the information on the presented companies except for the direct contact numbers of the respective individuals. We first started to look for the contact numbers of the respective contact person on the company website. The websites did not provide separate contact numbers for the individuals and only provided the general number of the company. Then we looked for an extension for the contact person, but the websites did not include such information.

Then our next strategy was to look into professional networking sites such as Linkedin and Xing for the contact information. We looked into the profiles of each contact person on many platforms and were not able to find a direct contact number for any of the listed contacts. This suggests that they have not publicly shared this information.

Our final strategy was to look into contact provider websites such as Zoominfo and Rocketreach for the contact numbers. Although these websites provided a contact email for the individuals, there was no information regarding the contact numbers. Some of the contact numbers given on these websites were the same as the contact number of the respective company. Therefore, we have entered the general contact number of the company since the direct numbers for the individuals were not available.

Smart Meter Prospecting List Part 1

In rows 3-9, columns A-I, of the "Smart Meters" tab of the project spreadsheet, details of seven North American smart meter companies have been provided. Companies provided include Jabil, which manufactures smart meters and is based in St. Petersburg, Florida and Intellimeter, which is based in Ontario, Canada. We have outlined some key findings from our research below.

KEY FINDINGS

  • Itron operates in 5 continents including Africa, Asia Pacific, South America, and Europe.
  • Kenneth Bockhorst is the president and chief executive officer of the company Badger Meter.

RESEARCH STRATEGY

We commenced our research by identifying companies that operate in the smart meter industry and are headquartered in North America. Once we identified these companies, we proceeded to comb through their websites for first-hand information on the company's description and operating territories. During our research, we realized that none of the companies we identified had the title of VP Merchandising and Licensing. We realized this after combing through their website, employee list on LinkedIn, and even searching through notable news websites such as Business Insider and CNBC, for any news story on an appointment for the position. After discovering this, we proceeded to provide the information for the chief executive officer or chief marketing officer of the companies identified. In other to retrieve their emails, we made use of third-party email finders such as Snov.io and Skrapp.io, since the emails of these top executives were not listed on the company's website or their LinkedIn pages. We have provided evidence of the emails found in a Google Doc.

At the end of our research, we were unable to identify the direct phone numbers for any of the executives of the seven companies even after checking the company's website, their individual LinkedIn pages, and third-party contact information finders such as Viola Nobert. We have updated the "smart meter" tab of the attached spreadsheet with all requested information for seven smart meter companies headquartered in North America.

Smart Meter Prospecting List Part 3

Some North American companies in the smart meter industry are Honeywell, IPKeys Technology, OSIsoft, INn-Situ Inc., Microchip Technology Inc. and Neptune Technology Group. The details of our findings are outlined on the attached spreadsheet in rows 17-22 of the Smart Meter tab.

    SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

    RESEARCH STRATEGY

To find six North American companies which are in the smart meter field, we viewed news articles published on news and business websites such as PRNewswire, Environmental Expert, and Forbes.

In selecting our six companies, we then further went into viewing their web pages, social profiles on platforms such as LinkedIn, and Rocket Reach, and business websites such as Alpha Business Trends, Corporate Affiliations, and Source Book. When viewing information on the web pages of the companies, we moved from the homepages to the about-us pages and finally to the products and distributions pages. This method of information sourcing was done for each of the six found companies. Other websites such as Fort Collins Chambers was used to access the contact information to the company affiliates requested.

In looking for the Vice President of Merchandising and Licensing for each company, a variation of the position was found. To do this we visited the official company web pages, job position and business profiling websites such as Glassdoor, LinkedIn, PitchBook, and Rocket Reach. Contact information was found through some same as well as government websites and directory web pages. For Honeywell no VP of Merchandising was found on either their homepage, LinkedIn, or the other business profiling websites visited. As such we used the CEO representative found on their web page. Similarly, the VP of merchandising for IPKeys Technology was not found on any of the visited sources, and as such we used the named CEO found on their leadership page. The VP of Marketing for OSIsoft, appointed this year, was found on their web page press release page, though no VP of merchandising was seen. In Situ Inc. also showed no presence of either a VP of merchandising or a VP of marketing on any of the viewed sources. As such we used their listed President and CEO. For Microchip Technology we were able to find the VP of Licensing on their web page under contacts. Finally, Neptune Technology whilst showing no presence of a VP of merchandising on the examined platforms we were able to locate the name and contact information for their listed VP of marketing, found on LinkedIn.
