YinzCam Sales Growth

  • YinzCam's year-over-year sales growth is estimated at 6.88% between 2009 and 2018.
  • The firm's sales has grown from about $1.69 million in 2009 to around $3.95 million in 2018.
  • In 2012, YinzCam's sales were approximately $2.24 million.
  • In 2017, YinzCam's sales were roughly $3.59 million.
  • In 2013, YinzCam was named among the 20 fastest growing mobile startups with an average weekly growth rate of 19 percent.

RESEARCH STRATEGY

The research team's first step towards searching for details of YinzCam's sales growth was to examine the official website. By convention, businesses present their financials, including the annual and quarterly reports, on their websites to be viewed by investors and interested parties. We argued that if YinzCam maintains such financials, the same would be disclosed on its website. Unfortunately, this strategy proved futile since YinzCam is a private company and therefore is not obligated to disclose its financials to the public.

Next, we searched company insight-based platforms, such as Crunchbase, PitchBook, Zoominfo, DB Hoovers, and others, that publish information on revenues/sales and revenue growth for various businesses. We located YinzCam's profiles on these databases and examined the section of sales' details. However, we were only able to identify the estimated sales data for the firm for the current period.

Lastly, the team searched through credible media sites that have announced YinzCam's activities in the past for any mention of its revenue or sales growth or metrics we could use to triangulate the same. This included examining the Venturebeat, Biz Journals, and more. The news articles managed to cast some light into YinzCam's sales growth; for example, an average weekly growth rate of 19% — but did not reveal figures for any specific year.

YinzCam sales for the latest financial period (2018)

To calculate this, we summed the estimated sales figures as presented by Crunchbase ($4 million), Zoominfo ($7.3 million), and DB Hoovers ($0.56 million), and worked out the average {(4+7.3+0.56)/3} to determine the sales for the latest financial period (approximately $3.95 million).

YinzCam sales from 2009 to 2017

Now, assuming that YinzCam's average weekly growth rate of 19 percent applies for each week since it was founded in 2009, then the firm's average annual growth rate is 9.88%, calculated as (52weeks*19%)/1week.

Therefore, using the CAGR calculator to estimate YinzCam's growth in sales from 2009 to 2008:

2009 -$1.69 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where the final value (f) is $3.95 million, period (n) is 9 years, and annual growth rate (r) is 9.88%.
2010 -$1.86 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 8, and r is 9.88%.
2011- $2.04 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 7, and r is 9.88%.
2012- $2.24 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 6, and r is 9.88%.
2013- $2.47 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 5, and r is 9.88%.
2014- $2.71 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 4, and r is 9.88%.
2015- $2.98 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 3, and r is 9.88%.
2016- $3.27 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 2, and r is 9.88%.
2017- $3.59 million (estimated sales); calculated using the CAGR calculator where f is $3.95 million, n is 1, and r is 9.88%.
2018- $3.95 million.

YinzCam Funding and Investors

The National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) are the major investors of YinzCam.

Funding and Investors

  • In 2013, YinzCam's CEO and Founder Priya Narasimhan announced on Pittsburg Business Times that the company's growth was purely "paid for through sales" and that no venture or angel funding had been pumped into the firm since 2009 when it was established.
  • Fast forward to 2014, in a court case in which the NFL was sued, it emerged that the NFL holds an equity position in the company, but this was something that had not "previously been publicly revealed" by either NFL or YinzCam, and both companies declined to comment.
  • In 2015, the NBA and YinzCam struck a multiyear partnership in which the latter will be the "official team app developer and arena mobile app developer" of NBA, and the former would take an undisclosed equity stake in YizCam.
  • In 2016, Narasimhan revealed, through an interview with the Sports Business Journal, that the NBA and NFL held equity stakes at the company, but did not disclose the amount for each.
  • Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had intentions to acquire YinzCam in 2014, and was in talks with the firm

RESEARCH STRATEGY

The research team's first step towards searching for details of YinzCam's funding rounds and major investors was to examine the official website. By convention, businesses provide this information at the "About," "History," or "Company" pages of their websites. The team also searched for any "News" page the business might maintain on its website — where news, newsletters, and other news articles are shared with investors, clients, and customers. We argued that if the corporation had received funding in the past, the same was announced through a press release. Unfortunately, this strategy proved futile since YinzCam does not disclose details about its funding or investors, as well as maintain any of the pages or their alternatives on the official website.

Next, we searched company insight-based platforms, such as Crunchbase, PitchBook, and others, that publish information on valuation, funding rounds, and investors for various businesses. We located YinzCam's profiles on these databases and examined the sections for funding/investors' details. However, we noticed that neither of these databases records any statistics on YinzCam's funding rounds and investors.

Lastly, the team searched through credible media sites that have announced YinzCam's activities in the past for any mention of its funding rounds and investors. This included examining the Sports Business Journal, MSR News, Biz Journals, Pittsburg Business Times, and more. The news articles managed to cast some light into the status of funding at the company but did not reveal any funding rounds or amounts invested.
