Please provide an overview of the structure of EY's global advisory practices, including org chart/structure, names of leadership team, budget, P&L, locations, and number of staff.
Hello! Thanks for the request about EY's Global Advisory practices. Simply put, the global advisory division of EY is expansive in both size and scope, and the resources I was able to use came primarily from the detailed reports that were offered by EY. In short, EY is a publicly traded company with a global annual revenue of $29.6 billion and $7.85 billion for their Advisory Department. The company is divided into 4 primary regions: Americas; Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA); Asia-Pacific; and Japan, with 28 subunits. Below, you will find a deep dive into my findings
OVERVIEW
Everything indicated here was directly sourced from Ernst and Young, including the area of operation locations, corporate structure, and leadership, as well as all of the financial information. The only point of your request for which information was lacking was the acquisition of the interdepartmental budgets, which was inaccessible due to the private ownership of the company.
LEADERSHIP
At EY, the corporate structure acts a series of two brackets of organization: Executive and Regional. The executive element of the EY organization reads " The Executive includes our global leadership, governance bodies, and our four geographic Areas. Working together, they oversee our global strategy, brand, business planning, investments, and priorities." One of the larger areas of focus, responsible for a quarter of the 2016 revenues, is the Advisory Division which saw a 13% revenue increase from 2015.
The Advisory Division of EY is a reflection of the overarching structure of the company. Headed by a Global Vice Chair of Advisory, the division works by a method of Executive primary leadership first, and then brings leadership down into four geographic Areas: Americas, Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA); Asia-Pacific; and Japan. After that, there are 28 sub-units, almost all of which are purposely not single countries.
According to EY, this type of organization allows them to deliver disruptive innovation trends by acting with a global mindset, working collaboratively with clients, and operating within structures of the dual-management system to deliver uniquely constructed solutions to specific problems.
Evidencing the collaborative nature of the corporate structure at EY, the significant executive officers are:
This primary leadership is then broken down into several subdivisions including Industries, business issues, capabilities, and alliances, all of which accounting for more than 150 heads of individual departments which cycle as a function of one of the 28 regions.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
Ernst and Young is a privately owned company. As such, access to the financial documentation indicative of in-house budgeting was not available because the laws stipulating release of such relevant information do not apply.
The Global Advisory division of EY specifically reported $7.846 Billion in revenue in 2016 and an overall company revenue of $29.6 Billion for the year 2016.
The reports of individual departmental budgets were not available. Moreover, the company believes that the net profit/loss figures are irrelevant because they label themselves as a collection of individual member firms in different countries rather than one cohesive global entity.
LOCATIONS AND STAFF
Headquartered in London, England, Ernst and Young features more than 700 offices in over 150 countries with 231,000 employees. The offices span across six continents. To ensure effectiveness, there are 28 specific, often non-nationally drawn lines of command, business units called Regions, which grant EY effective legal and economic organization.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, Ernst and Young is a powerhouse multinational company with interests in nearly every conceivable modern market. The global advisory division, responsible for a quarter of their overall 2016 revenues, works in management consulting and complex systems solution acquisition.
