Please provide an overview of the speaker bureau market, including industry revenues, as well as most popular subjects represented by speakers bureaus.
Hello! Thanks for your question about an overview of the speaker bureau market. The short version is that after searching extensively through corporate websites, industry reports, government reports/databases, regulatory filings and academic databases, I’ve determined that the information you requested is not publicly available due to lack of revenue information and credible graphs and charts. However, I was able to learn the revenue information, fee information and specialized subject information for three popular, well-established, credible speakers bureaus as well as an overview of the industry. Below you will find a deep dive of my research and methodology.
METHODOLOGY
After extensive research, my colleague and I were unable to find revenue information on the industry as a whole. Also, credible graphs and/or charts could not be found. We were able to identify revenue information on three popular, well-established speaker bureaus as well as other information pertaining to them. Also, we were able to identify an overview of the industry. You will find the details below.
OVERVIEW
According to ctb.ku.edu, "speakers bureaus educate and inform the public about the organization and its issues." They are developed for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to raising awareness about issues, providing positive role models, recruiting new members or volunteers, and raising funds. Speakers bureaus reach a variety of target audiences such as business groups, service organizations, religious groups, political groups, environmental groups, etc. Currently, there are 104 speakers bureaus in the IASB. While not all bureaus join an organization, this is an impressive figure.
While there is a lot of information regarding how to set up a roster, identify opportunities, complete engagements and get feedback, this information varies depending on the industry/subject of interest. These topics vary widely, anywhere from business to celebrity speeches, political speeches, current events, economics, education, health, human rights, sports, technology, and so on. By providing the specific industry of interest, a follow-up request may be desired.
Some of the most prolific speakers in the world include: Dr. Frank Shankwitz, founder of Make A Wish; Brian Smith, founder of UGG Boots; Leah O’Brien Amico, three-time Olympic gold medalist; Greg S. Reid, speaks on the power of perseverance; and Rob Angel, inventor of Pictionary. While some engagements are not paid, many are and range from $15-20,000 or more per session.
SPEAKER BUREAU EXAMPLES
Keppler Speakers. Keppler Speakers is the largest privately held speakers bureau in the U.S.A. The company offers a wide variety of topics that are categorized by business events, international events, and college/university events. According to Hoover's database, Keppler Speakers has a revenue of $7.8 million.
Premiere Speakers Bureau. Premiere is a popular bureau which focuses on motivational, politics and current issues, business, health/wellness, entertainment, K-12 education, college, sports, international, and faith speeches. Fees range anywhere from $2,500-$100,000+. Hoover's estimates Premiers' revenue to be approximately $15 million.
Washington Speakers Bureau. Washington Speakers Bureau is another popular speakers bureau and has been in business for over 40 years. With an estimated 50,000 engagements booked, their topics include motivation & achievement, American politics, business, culture & society, sports, economics, entertainment, science & tech, and world affairs. Speakers can be searched for by topic and price range, which begins at $15,000 and under to $40,001 and up.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, after searching extensively through a variety of information from corporate websites, industry reports, government reports/databases, regulatory filings, and academic databases, a direct answer to your question is not publicly available because there is a lack of revenue information for the industry as a whole. However I learned that three of the more popular speakers bureaus hold revenues between $7 million and $15 million and offer a variety of topics and speakers with varying fee ranges. If you’d like to continue research on any of the other topics I’ve outlined above, just let us know!
