Hello! Thanks for your question about the Lo family in Hong Kong with an emphasis on Jimmy Lo and investments made by Century City Group, Regal Hotels and Cosmopolitan International Holdings. The short version is that Lo family's (Jimmy Lo) business activities mainly comprise property development and investment, hotel ownership, hotel operation and management, aircraft ownership and leasing, and edutainment. Below you will find a deep dive of my findings
METHODOLOGY
For this question I searched corporate databases, industry databases, and investment reports for the correct Lo family businesses. Then I narrowed my search to corporate structures, family ties, and company filings.
HOTEL EMPIRE
The Regal Real Estate Investment Trust (Regal REIT) is owned by the Jimmy Lo branch of the Lo family in Hong Kong. It is part of a worldwide trend that separates hotel ownership from hotel operation to enable greater specialization. Mr.Lo Yuk Sui, age 70, became the Chairman and Non-executive Director of Regal REIT in 2006. Ms. Lo Po Man, age 37, was appointed Non-executive Director in 2012. Mr. Jimmy Lo Chun To, age 41, the son of Mr. Lo Yuk Sui and the brother of Miss Lo Po Man, was appointed in 2006 as a non-executive director. Regal REIT's 2015 report states that the total net property income generated by their hotels was HK$796.3 million--an excess of HK$33.3 million, over the aggregate base rent of HK$763.0 million--down from HK$918.1 million in 2014. In this report there is no mention of ongoing litigation.
In 2016 CNBC's Bernie Lo interviewed the family, and they emphasized the importance of rationality in their business decisions, and they always do what is best for the company. Both children agreed that their father was in charge. Mr.Lo Yuk Sui stated that sometimes he would embrace risk more than his children. Their three primary companies are Century City International Holdings Limited, Paliburg Holdings Limited, and Regal Hotels International Limited.
Paliburg Holdings Limited is also managed by the Lo family (Jimmy Lo) branch. Its 2015 annual report shows that Mr. Lo Yuk Sui, Mr. Jimmy Lo Chun To, and Ms. Lo Po Man serve as executive directors. In the profile section of the report it is stated that Mr.Lo Yuk Sui is also the executive director, chairman and the chief executive officer of Century City International Holdings Limited (CCIHL), Regal Hotels International Holdings Limited (RHIHL) and Cosmopolitan International Holdings Limited (Cosmopolitan). Also, he is the non-executive director and the
chairman of Regal Portfolio Management Limited (RPML), and he serves as a manger for Regal Real Estate Investment Trust. Mr. Lo Yuk Sui's father, Mr. Lo Ying-shek was the founder of Great Eagle Holdings, and his brother Vincent Lo Hong-sui is the chairman of the Shui On Group.
