I would like to know what is the effect of photos and videos on app downloads on iPhone

Hello there and thank you for your question regarding data storage and use for photos, videos, and app downloads on the iPhone. The short answer is that users tend to have somewhere around 54 apps installed, and there is a high correlation between apps with large file sizes and the number of downloads. Below you'll find a deep dive of my research.

METHODOLOGY
Utilizing mostly published data from tech articles, I gathered the necessary information surrounding app installation, iPhones, and anything storage related. Unfortunately, some of the data you asked for was unavailable since no one has collected or published particular sets of data. This is especially apparent through storage elements.

There is also a disparity between recorded number of app installations. I could not find an average for iPhone users only in this regards either. This may be private data, and may also be a reflection of varying collection methods across devices, countries, or different types of consumers. There is also the consideration that someone with 16GB would have fewer apps installed than say a 128 GB model.

Where possible I attempted to find annual reports or counts to give you a segment by year. This was only really available for the report of iPhones sold.

NUMBER OF iPHONES
A report showing the number of iPhones sold annually is available here. Between January 2008 and July 2016, approximately 1 billion iPhones have been sold in total.

STORAGE OCCUPIED
I tried to find any information on average storage use by iPhone users. I came up with no data or reports. I did find a guide to checking the capacity of your phone with specific relation to Photos & Camera. While this may not provide you with an answer directly, you could possibly utilize this if you were able somehow to get a sample to ask their usage.

AVERAGE NUMBER OF APPS Data from App Annie states the average number of apps for a user is 60-90. Although that doesn't exclude Android users in a recent report. Another report for US users determined the average number of apps installed was 88.7 for smartphones.

Data collected in March 2013 reflected an average smartphone user had 26 apps. This was data collected across 10 different countries.

In Canada for 2014 users across all age groups had an average of 25 apps on their smart phones. The number declined to 18 for 2015. Again this was reflected across all smartphones, not necessarily just iPhones.

As you can see there are issues with consistency here. This may be due to the ways the information is collected, which kind of smartphones are targeted for collection, etc. The whole range states somewhere between 18-90, so a median would reflect 54 apps.

iPHONE VIDEO STORAGE CAPABILITY
A great chart demonstrating the amount of data, minutes, or hours of storage is available. The findings are based on the kind of video being taken, as well as what kind of storage capacity the iPhone has.

AVERAGE APP SIZE
While researching your question I also found a segment on the average size of an app in general. Apps released in the last month of this article (Feb 2017) showed an average file size of 37.9 MB for iOS mobile apps and 14.6 MB for Android mobile apps. These include recently released apps that reflect the current market. Historical data reaching back into older apps though show the collective average Android app file size is 11.5MB, and the average iOS app file size is 34.3MB.

Gaming apps are usually the largest at #1, while Photo & Video apps rank #8 based on file size at an average of 36 MB. There is also a correlation between larger file size apps getting more downloads.

I also found this list of iPhone specs for all models. In the case that you are doing global research, knowing the limitations of storage for different countries might be helpful and there is a short list provided here as well. Although, this article makes the good point that published storage doesn't equate to the real storage capacity given pre-installed apps and software. A 16GB iPhone or iPad, in reality, translates to roughly 12.2 GB for your own discretion.

CONCLUSION
In short, there isn't a lot of data that reflects user habits on storage. Reports vary widely on the number of apps installed but this may be attributed to different storage capacity or habits of the user. I hope what information has been found will shed some light on the direction your article takes. Thanks for using Wonder! Please let us know if we may help with anything else.
