How many pest control companies are there in the US, how big are they by billings, in which states are they most prevalent and what is the most common size of Pest Control Company in these markets?

In researching pest control companies in the US, we determined there are 26,659 total pest control companies, which are most concentrated in the Southern states and Northeastern states. No data was available on the size of pest control companies by state, but we found that regional and local pest control companies generally have under $5 million in revenue, compared to national companies which had average revenues over $100 million.

PEST CONTROL COMPANIES

A report on the pest control industry shows that there are 26,659 total pest control companies in the US. Additionally, the pest control industry employs an estimated 121,472 persons. The industry as a whole is rapidly expanding, much of which is attributed to the growth of bed bug problems in the US, with a projected annual growth of 2.9%.

REGIONALIZATION

While there was no data available on which specific states have the most prevalence of pest control companies, we were able to find data on which regions and US cities have the highest potential demand for pest control, which can lead us to conclude that pest control businesses would be concentrated in these regions.

There are two regions that have the highest concentrations of pest control issues. In Southern states with warmer climates, such as Florida and Georgia, indoor insect problems proliferate due to the high temperatures. Cities in this region with the highest pest control problems include Miami, Tampa, Phoenix, Nashville, and Atlanta.

Northeastern states are known for rodent issues, especially during cold months, where the pests seek indoor spaces for food and warmth. Cities with high concentration of pest problems in this region include the highly populated areas of Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, and New York City.

SIZE

While there was no data available on the size of these companies per region, we did find data on the range and average sizes of pest control companies in the US. While the largest ten pest control companies were national companies with sales between $100- 350 million dollars, the majority of these businesses are noted to be either smaller local or regional operations, with over 99% of companies having sales of under $5 million.

CONCLUSION

In summary, there are 26,659 total pest control companies in the US, primarily concentrated in the Southern and Northeastern states. Regional and local pest control companies generally have under $5 million in revenue, and national companies had average revenues over $100 million.
