How many people visit the City of Perth each month?
Hello! Thank you for your question regarding the number of people that visit Perth each month. The short answer according to my research is that by the end of November 2016, there were about 8.19 million visitors to Perth. Also, the quieter months according to statistics are April, May, and June. The statistics and graph are available in this spreadsheet. You'll find a deep dive of my research below, along with an explanation of my methodology.
METHODOLOGY
In order to answer your question, I mainly used the statistics recorded by the tourism website of Western Australia. I also used the hotel occupancy rates published by the same website in order to validate the results.
Please also note that the monthly statistics are mainly for the whole of Western Australian region but since Perth is the main city and that majority of this part of Australia is accessible, we can safely assume that Perth is the main attraction for visitors.
FINDINGS
Here is the spreadsheet with statistics and graph. The statistics that I have input in the sheet are for 2015 and 2016 till November. December 2016 statistics are not yet available and hence these are not available.
Perth, until November 2016, saw about 8.19 million visitors. Upon analyzing the data, it can be found that the lowest number of visitors when compared to other months in Australia is during the months April, May and June. The number of visitors between April-June in 2016 is about 1.7 million whereas between June-August is about 1.9 million. Similarly, in 2015, the number of visitors between April-June is about 1.5 million and between June-August is about 1.69 million. Both the years' statistics indicate that the number of visitors is lowest during these three months of April, May and June.
It is interesting to note that the number of visitors pick up in July before falling again in August. I was unable to find any particular reason behind this spike in the number of visitors.
In order to further validate the numbers, I also looked at the hotel occupancy rates using the Western Australia tourism website. Looking at these statistics, we can see that the average hotel occupancy rate between April-June is about 82% whereas the average occupancy rate between June-August is 83%.
Please also note that Perth sees a lot of visitors all through the year and hence the difference run only in a few thousands when comparing the number of visitors between months.
SUMMARY
In short, April, May and June see the least number of visitors when compared to other months in Perth.
