Research Strategy
In order to provide 7 true competitors to OfficeMax, we started our research by trying to understand OfficeMax's business model and value proposition. We checked the company website, as well as their LinkedIn profile, and we were able to find this information. OfficeMax merged with Office Depot to form Office Depot, Inc., a retail company that provides solutions, services and products for workplaces. They provide core office supplies, furniture, the latest technology, business services, print and document services, school essentials and facilities products; giving customers everything they need to focus on their businesses. The company has more than 10,000 employees.
With this in mind, we identified competitors as other companies in the same industry which produce the same kinds of products and are of the same size as OfficeMax. We were able to identify Staples, Walmart, Target, Costco, Best Buy, IKEA and Amazon.
