How many neurosurgical procedures using an endoscope (neurological endoscope) in the United States in 2016
Hello! Thanks for your question about the market volume of neuroendoscopes in the US. The short version is that after searching extensively through industry reports, white papers, and statistical presentations, I have determined the data is not available publicly because PR Newswire, Report Hive and Grandview Research have the data for sale. However, I was able to learn that there were 906,500 neurosurgeries performed in 2015, and that "neuroendoscopes are expected to grow at a CAGR of over 8%." Below you will find a deep dive of my findings.
FINDINGS
I was unable to find public data for endoscopy procedure or device volumes. Also, single-use, disposable neuroendoscopes were not mentioned in any sources. However, I learned that "neuroendoscopes are expected to grow at a CAGR of over 8%.
There are dozens of neurosurgical procedures. However, there are only three kinds of endoscopic operations:
1. endoscopic surgery
2. assisted endoscopic surgery
3. directed endoscopic surgery
In 2015, neurosurgeons performed 906,500 procedures. Since neurosurgeons need to be trained on how to use neuroendoscopy devices and are used specifically for brain tumor removal, we know neurological endoscopic procedures do not make up a majority of the segment. "There are nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. living with a primary brain and central nervous system tumor." Therefore, we know that some patients are having multiple surgeries.
According to Johns Hopkins, neuroendoscopy is mainly used to treat brain tumors. "Nearly 80,000 new cases of primary brain tumors are expected to be diagnosed this year. Approximately one-third or 32% of brain and CNS tumors are malignant."
Since patients are having multiple surgeries, and we do not the penetration rate of neurological endoscopy, I was unable to triangulate the market volume for neuroendoscopes or neuroendoscopies.

A 2016 Grand View Research paywalled report includes details on the dominance of the North American market along with segmentation information (types of neurosurgical procedures).
Report Hive offers another paywalled report that includes details on the US "neurology endoscopy device market" for 2017. This report might include market volume information for single-use, disposable neuroendoscopes as they were not mentioned in any other source.
PR Newswire offers a report that lists surgical volume rates, but will not include information specifically for endoscopy devices and procedures since this is a sub-specialization.
CONCLUSION
