I need some revenue, profit, and costs for the largest retailers in the world.
Hello! Thanks for your question about financial data on the largest retailers in the world. The short version is that, of the seven retailers, Amazon has had the highest annual revenue growth, averaging at 23.16%, over the last five years. Relative to 2012, Carrefour's labor costs as a percentage of total sales has increased from 9.64% to 10.46%. I compiled data on seven top global retailers: Walmart, Costco, Kruger, Walgreens, The Home Depot, Carrefour and Amazon, on this spreadsheet. Except for Carrefour, none of the retailers revealed their labor costs in the financial statements. Below you will find a deep dive of my findings.
METHODOLOGY
To complete this request, I reviewed the following information sources: Corporate websites, Industry reports, and Trusted media sites. Using Deloitte's Global Powers of Retailing 2017 Report, a ranking of the top 250 retailers globally based on revenue, I came up with a list of seven retail companies. The companies were Walmart, Costco, Kruger, Walgreens, The Home Depot, Carrefour and Amazon. All the financial data compiled was based of financial statements and annual reports of the companies. Except for Carrefour, none of the retailers revealed their labor costs in the financial statements. The cost item was aggregate under the General, Selling and Administrative expenses.
Uniquely, Carrefour was the only retailer, of the seven, whose financial statements were in Euros as it is based in France. For uniformity, I converted the extracted financial data from Euro to US Dollar using historical data on currency from the IRS.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, of the seven retailers, Amazon has had the highest annual revenue growth, averaging at 23.16%, over the last five years.
