I need a list of the top tv/film and photo location scouts in New York City (with as much contact info email, phone address, etc.)
Hello! Thanks for your question about top location scouts in NYC. The short version is that, as I was not able to find a pre-compiled list for the "top" location scouts in NYC, I researched to put together a list of scouts who match your criteria along with as much contact information as I could find on them. You can find the spreadsheet here. You will also find below a detailed methodology of how I compiled this list and suggestions for further research.
METHODOLOGY
The first thing I did was go straight to the NYC mayor's office of media and entertainment as I suspected they would have a list of shows and films currently being filmed in NYC. After confirming that this list existed, I took each series listed and browsed its IMDB page. I was looking for two things. First, I wanted to cut out of the list the shows that were very low on IMDB's popularity ranking to ensure that I worked on shows that would be best on a scout's resume to ensure the quality of their work. The second thing I looked for was iconic NYC footage. In other words, I looked for shows that had many scenes shot out in the street or revolved almost completely around the location itself, such as Blue Bloods, which tracks the lives of NYPD cops.
I then went on each show's IMDB page and looked at all the people listed under "location scout" and noted the total number of episodes they worked on in the production and picked out the most prolific ones. After I had a long list of location scouts, I then went on each scout's IMDB page and looked at their total work history as a location scout in any show filmed in NYC in the past 3 years. I then selected the top 19 location scouts based on two factors:
1) popularity of the shows they worked on
2) total number of episodes they worked on
RESULTS
I have included the names of the 19 scouts in the spreadsheet provided. I have also included all the emails and phone numbers I was able to verify as well as any profile info I found on LinkedIn and ProductionBeast, a website for film freelancers. I also included up to four productions the scouts have worked on that match the aforementioned criteria, in addition to the total number of episodes they worked on with each show.
Finally, I have hyperlinked their names to direct you to their IMDB page. It is very likely that more contact information can be found on IMDB for these scouts. However, to access this information you would need an IMDB Pro account.
