I need to find ethnic/language population breakdown for a set of 27 georgia zip codes
Hello, and thanks for your question asking for ethnic/language information for specific zip codes in Georgia. I have found information on the following zip codes: 30331, 30305, 30306, 30033, 30342, 30327, 30080, 30338, 30319 and 30339. Due to the fact that there was limited ethnic and language recorded distinctly by postcode, I have had to use data for languages that is dated, and ethnicity sources that only looked at some of the requested ethnicities. I believe that this data is only available if it is purchased, or perhaps it is only accessible to government officials. Below you will find a deep dive into my research, along with all the details as to how I came to this conclusion.
OVERVIEW
13.3% of all people living in the state of Georgia speak a language other than English at home. In order to understand more about what languages are being spoken, and by what ethnicities (focusing on those you expressed interest in) I searched for official government sources that segment data by zip code, that have been published in the last few years. I checked through various published data on the US Census website (for example here, and here) however the only sources that I came across were not specific to zip code.
As you stated that it was essential that information should be segmented by zip code specifically I had to use the best sources that I could find for this information. I believe either official recent data has yet to be collected and split by postcode, or perhaps it is only available to government officials, or those who pay for data. I did manage to find a source which details what languages are spoken, by how many people within each zip code, however, the most recent statistics that were available here were from 2000. I did a thorough search for more recent data and found other sources (e.g. here and here), however, these statistics were not broken down on the level of zip code. Using the source from 2000 I was able to say how many people in each zip code spoke each of the languages that you said you were interested in (Chinese, Indian, Arabic, Farsi, Iranian, and Dutch). For Indian, I split this up into 3 languages (Hindi, Gujarati, and Urdu) and provided data for each. For Farsi, I searched for Persian as Farsi was not mentioned in the sources I found, whereas Persian was and it is the official language of Iran.
Finally, I will comment that I could find no zip code specific data on Dutch. I believe that this is because such a small percentage of people in Georgia speak Dutch. For example, I found that there are only 2,795 Dutch speakers in the entire state.
For information on ethnicity, I used a more recent source from 2015, using the American Fact Finder, which displays information from the US Census. However, this source only provided breakdowns per zip code for the largest ethnicities, such as Chinese and Indian. Unfortunately, I could not find another source which gave these details at the level of zip code. Again, I believe that this information is not freely available online.
CONCLUSION
Overall, I have been able to find data for each of the first 10 zip codes that you were interested in. Some information is missing or slightly dated, but this is because there are such limited sources freely available online which split this kind of data up into zip codes.
