Who are NAUTO, Lytx, i4drive's three major competitors and how are they differentiated from product and brand positioning perspectives?
Greetings!
Thanks for your question regarding Nauto, Lytx, and i4drive's three major competitors and how they are differentiated from product and brand positioning perspectives. The most useful resources I utilized in this report were Owler and Crunchbase. While I found information outlining the major competitors for these three companies, unfortunately virtually none of the questions raised under "what does success look like" were publicly available. Below you will find a deep dive including all the information I was able to cull on the competition of these three companies.
METHODOLOGY
As previously stated, I could not speak to the specific questions outlined in this request because there was no information concerning these topics made publicly available. However, I did collect all the relevant information I could on the competition of Nauto, Lytx, and i4drive and included it in this report. I listed what were considered by Owler to be the top three competitors for each company and provided requisite information on said companies, ranking them by revenue.
NAUTO
Estimated venue for Smartvue is $5 million. The company received $1.8 million, $5.4 million, and $15 million in funding for the years 2013, 2014, and 2015, respectively. Key information outlined by their website states that "Smartvue empowers video surveillance for almost any device, on any network, anywhere in the world." The company uploads 41 million minutes of video per day (which is more than YouTube) and manages 1 billion rows of data. "As the leader in cost-effective 'end-to-end' video surveillance and IoT video, our integrated platform provides secure and reliable services to over 140 countries."
Smartvue offers a support portal on their website where users can "chat with support specialist in our online portal filled with community discussions, tools and videos to make your Smartvue surveillance experience even better." There is also telephone and email support available.
Estimated revenue for Optimus Ride is $1.5 million. The company received $5.3 million in seed-stage funding in 2016. Key company overview information listed on the company website indicated that "Optimus Ride Inc. is an MIT spinoff company based in Boston, MA that develops self‑driving technologies to enable safe, sustainable, and equitable mobility solutions. [They] are designing a fully autonomous (level 4) system for electric vehicle fleets."
The company offers solutions that include transit options as well as transportation options for passengers from multi-scaled commercial vessels. They are currently in the building stages, but gaining favorable recognition in the tech world. Optimus Ride plans to "leverage the latest advances in complex sensor fusion, mapping, computer vision and machine learning to develop its systems," by "working to integrate these technologies in order to deploy a new form of transportation system that enables safe, sustainable and equitable mobility access."
nuTonomy has an estimated revenue of less than $1.00 million. The company positions itself as "the leading developer of state-of-the-art software for self-driving vehicles founded by two world-renowned experts in robotics and intelligent vehicle technology, Drs. Karl Iagnemma and Emilio Frazzoli of MIT." nuTonomy has begun developing comprehensive solutions for "point-to-point mobility via large fleets of autonomous vehicles." These solutions include "smartphone-based ride hailing," "software for autonomous vehicle navigation in urban environments," in addition to "fleet routing and management, and controlling a vehicle remotely through tele-operation." The company is new and in its seed stage, and does not offer information about customer support or telematics insurance just yet.
According to a recent article, after successful runs in Asia, autonomy has begun testing their driverless cars on the congested streets of Boston, close to their home at MIT.
LYTX
According to Owler, the top three competitors of Lytx are Networkfleet, SmartDrive Systems, and Vnomics.
Estimate revenue for Networkfleet is $115.2 million. The company provides solutions for fleet management systems which allow companies to monitor, manage, and track their vehicle fleets. The company is owned and operated by Verizon. They offer three solutions:

Expressfleet is best for small businesses with 5 vehicles or less, or anyone who just needs basic GPS fleet tracking and diagnostics."
Fleetmatics, which is a fleet management solution best for smaller and medium-sized operations looking to improve "real-time visibility and identify opportunities to improve productivity."
And, third, Telogis, which provides solutions that are "designed specifically to support enterprise-level operations and effective end-to-end management of assets, drivers, customers and jobs." The website indicates that Telogis' "[M]obile resource management (MRM) solutions offer superior architecture and robust technology that is relied on by some of the world’s largest mobile workforces. Includes flexible hardware, back-end integration with other ERP software solutions, plus extensive compliance and customization options."
The company offers support day and night, as well as their patented "Asset Guard," which works on internal antennas and cellular GPS and allows customers "to protect and manage every asset in your fleet, including trailers, generators, heavy duty equipment, sheds and more. The estimated revenue for SmartDrive Systems is $5.4 million. The company received $50 million in funding in 2015. Key information outlined on the website indicated that "SmartDrive transforms fleet performance with the best-in-class safety programs, an open analytics platform, and transportation intelligence that improves safety and unlocks new opportunities to drive operational efficiency." Their two solutions offered are a "video-based safety program," and "transportation intelligence." Key features of these products include expert-analyzed event video, immediate offload, captured distracted or drowsy driving, 360-degree video insights, KPI scores, and much more. Their True Fuel™ solution "precisely monitors each vehicle’s actual fuel usage in real time and compares it to the maximum achievable fuel economy (Potential MPG) for that vehicle under its current load and operating conditions." True Fuel was listed as one of the top 10 products of 2016.
I4DRIVE
i4drive has very little information publicly available. There is no Owler profile for the company, nor is there any revenue information available. Based on the very limited information listed on their Crunchbase profile, "i4drive develops vision-based solutions that can be integrated into any vehicle regardless of make or model and upgrades them with driver safety and autonomous driving capabilities. i4drive's proprietary technology can be integrated with a wide-variety of different cameras, sensors and chips, ensuring both a high level of flexibility and maximum performance"
A recent article in The Huffington Post profiled the winners of the 2015 Powerful Answers Award contest. i4drive was listed alongside three other winners from its class (which is transportation). Judging by their metric, I took the three companies listed in their class to stand in for the top three competitors of i4drive. Those companies are: iHelmet, Pogo, and Swiftmile. Unfortunately, detailed information on these three companies is also extremely limited.
According to the article, iHelmet is "an intelligent motorcycle helmet that is capable of providing safety, convenience & situational-awareness features found in high-end automobiles, to an ordinary motorcyclist." The produce utilizes sensors that are built into a unique device that must be attached to the motorcycle helmet. "This device communicates with the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth wireless technology and the app constantly monitors sensor readings to provide warnings and other functionalities appropriately." The company's CEO was awarded "$500,000 as one of the runner-up selections in the Verizon Powerful Answers Award contest."
Pogo offers solutions for parents to secure trusted rides for their children. The company helps parents "discover new carpool connections across all of your trusted groups, such as schools, teams, and neighborhood groups. If a carpool ride isn’t available, our thoroughly screened and trained paid drivers are there as a backstop." The app allows parents to connect with other carpoolers, offer to drive or request a ride, coordinate ride details at anytime, as well as providing integrated access to contact information, maps, and directions.
According to their Crunchbase profile, Swfitmile has received $775 thousand in their seed-stage funding. The Huffington Post article listed the company as having built "the worlds first Light Electric Vehicle sharing system where users can check out/in e-bikes or e-scooters using [the] SwiftmApp at any Swiftmile charging station." Their solar-powered. smart charging stations "can be quickly deployed on corporate campuses, universities, resorts, near bus stops, train stations, etc." Swiftmile cites the instance of "50% of most auto trips [being] less then 3 miles," and 30% being less then 1 mile as serious problem that needed to be addressed. Their solutions "help cities, corporations, universities ease congestion, decrease smog and provide a clean and green alternative to autos."
