Motorbike Total Sales

While there is no preexisting information to fully answer your question, we've used the available data to pull together key findings. Yamaha, Harley Davidson, and Bajaj Auto are the three largest motorcycle companies with a presence in some of the Asian countries examined in this response. Harley Davidson appears to be the only company with a presence in all ten countries.

Yamaha's Asian sales, were:
2012: ¥533,000,000,000
2013: ¥610,000,000,000
2014: ¥612,000,000,000
2015: ¥629,000,000,000
2016: ¥580,000,000,000

Below you'll find an outline of our research methodology to better understand why information you've requested is publicly unavailable, as well as a deep dive into our findings.

METHODOLOGY / ASSUMPTIONS

Based on my research, 'motorbike' and 'motorcycle' appear to be interchangeable terms when it comes to market reports. The most recent publicly-available market reports were from 2013 and 2014, such as a Research and Markets report that lists Honda, Yamaha, Hero, Bajaj Auto, and Harley–Davidson as the top five companies. A 2016 Freedonia market report lists Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha, Jiangsu Yadea, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor among the key companies, though it does not specify the top companies. A list of the top five best-selling motorcycles in the world was also useful as a cross-reference. Revenues for these companies were located in annual reports to determine the top three companies.

Within the scope of a single Wonder request, I was able to identify the following companies, as well as find Asian revenues for Yamaha, as outlined below and in the attached spreadsheet. If you would like us to continue this research, please submit a new request, and we'll be happy to pick up where we left off.

FINDINGS

Compiling all revenue data from the top companies identified in market reports, I was able to determine that Yamaha, Harley Davidson, and Bajaj Auto are the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world with a presence in some of the Asian countries examined in this report. Other companies considered, along with their revenues, are as follows:

KAWASAKI
Kawasaki appeared in a few lists, but does not appear to be a top contender in terms of revenue at ¥333.5 billion (or USD $2,954,000,000). Kawasaki is present in China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

HONDA
Motorcycles make up 12% of Honda's total revenue.
Total revenue: ¥1,716,165,000,000 (USD $15,196,444,517.87).
Motorcycle segment: ¥205,939,800,000 (1,716,165,000,000 x .12), which converts to USD $1,823,573,342.14. Therefore, in terms of overall revenue, Honda takes the top spot with $15.196 billion in revenue, but its motorcycle revenue put it in fourth place.

HERO
India-based motorcycle manufacturer Hero has 2017 revenue of 31,368.55 crore. One crore equals 10 million rupees. Therefore, revenues are 313,685,500,000 rupees. The conversion from rupee to USD put the figure at $4,897,681,322.33. Hero appeared to be a strong contender, but their annual report indicates their Asian presence is limited to India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

TOP THREE

YAMAHA
Yamaha's 2016 sales reached ¥1,502.8 billion (or USD $13.314 billion). Motorcycles sales were at ¥930.1 billion (or USD $8.24 billion). Yamaha segments its sales by the following geographic regions: Japan, North America, Europe, Asia, and Others. Therefore, revenue segmentation by country was not available. Yamaha's Asian presence includes Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and China. Asia, excluding Japan, makes up 83.6% of motorcycles sales. According to Yamaha's 2016 annual report, "Unit sales of motorcycles grew in India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, but declined in Indonesia and China." According to a Bloomberg article, 2016 sales decreased 31% in China.

HARLEY DAVIDSON
Harley Davidson posted $6 billion in revenue in 2016. While I was unable to find detailed information on Harley Davidson's global sales by country, they are present throughout the Asia Pacific region. Their dealer locator shows all ten of countries examined in this response. Several recent articles discuss the company's impending expansion in Asia, including a factory in Thailand.

BAJAJ AUTO
22,026 crore (220,260,000,000 rupees), which converts to USD $3,436,221,202.92. While I did not find an exhaustive list of Bajaj Auto's global locations, the company is based in India and has a presence across Asia. Bajaj's annual report lists domestic sales and exports, but it does not call out this data by country.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, Harley Davidson, Hero, and Bajaj Auto are the top motorcycle companies serving the Asian countries of China, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, and South Korea. The details of my findings can be found in the attached spreadsheet.
