Medicaid Child Coverage

The percentage of children on Medicaid have at least one parent also on Medicaid is 41.64%. We have utilized the data published by Medicaid and studies conducted by Georgetown University to extract the relevant information. All the data in the reports segregated between insured and uninsured parents. We have assumed that uninsured parents indicated that none of the parents are insured and insured parents indicated that at least one of the parents is insured.

TOTAL CHILDREN

According to the 2017 Health Reform Monitoring survey, about 96.7% of children and 89.3% of parents are insured under Medicaid. The report also stated that 21.6% of uninsured children also have parents who are uninsured as compared to 0.9% children with insured parents.

The 2018 Medicaid and CHIP Enrollment report states that 34,981,437 children were enrolled in the Medicaid program, constituting about 50.6% of the total Medicaid program. The total number of individuals under the Medicaid program are 65,852,256.

Percentage of uninsured children with uninsured parents = 21.6%

Percentage of insured children with insured parents
= (100 - Percentage of uninsured children with uninsured parents)
= (100 - 21.6)%
= 78.4%

Number of children under Medicaid = 34,981,437

Number of children under Medicaid with insured parents
= Number of children under Medicaid * Percent of insured children with insured parents
= 34,981,437 * 78.4%
= 27,425,446.61

Total number of individuals under Medicaid = 65,852,256

Percentage of children under Medicaid with insured parents
= (Number of children under Medicaid with insured parents / Total number of individuals under Medicaid) * 100
= (27,425,446.61 / 65,852,256)
= 41.64%

= 9.85%

Medicaid Managed Care Organizations

Our team found that Children's Medical Services Network, Cook Children's Health Plan, Driscoll Children's Health Plan, Texas Children's Health Plan, Children's Community Health Plan, Mercy Care Plan, and Kaiser Permanente are some Medicaid MCOs providing pediatric asthma care management programs.
Kaiser Family Foundation keeps a record of Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) in 39 states, with the latest update in September 2018. The list includes Medicaid MCOs arranged by state, providing comprehensive services to Medicaid beneficiaries, including acute care services or long term services, as well as support services. To determine the specific Medicaid MCOs providing pediatric ("the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents") asthma care management programs, we manually examined the official website of a number of these MCOs. Through the strategy, we identified Children's Medical Services Network, Cook Children's Health Plan, Driscoll Children's Health Plan, Texas Children's Health Plan, Children's Community Health Plan, Mercy Care Plan, and Kaiser Permanente.
