Research Strategy

We have identified 4 US companies that distribute cotton swabs with long wooden handles in the US. However, for the first company Kosmetech, we could not locate the names and contact information for their purchasing representatives and engineering representatives. We thoroughly searched their official website and LinkedIn profile. From here, we moved to search for news articles and press releases, but this did not yield any positive results. The company is estimated to have between 2-10 employees, but our LinkedIn search provided a list of three Kosmetech employees with LinkedIn profiles. None of them has purchasing representatives and engineering representatives in their job description or any position synonymous with it. The link to this list is included in this research.
For VWR, Fisher Scientific, and Henry Schein, we also could not find the names and contact information for the purchasing representatives and engineering representatives after searching their official websites, LinkedIn profiles, news articles, and press releases. In this case, we have provided instead the names and contact information of employees with synonymous positions such as Strategic Procurement Manager, Procurement Specialist, Chief Procurement Officer, Industrial Engineer, Process Engineer, etc within the US.

However, no engineering representatives are listed on the platform.

Next, we conducted a press search to obtain any mentions of employees in the engineering departments of the companies. None of the articles examined talked about employees from Tri-anim and Bound Tree Medical that work in the engineering department. Therefore, we have assumed that Tri-anim and Bound Tree Medical do not have engineering departments as they do not manufacture their own products.

Research Strategy

We were able to gather most of the requested information except the information regarding the purchase and sales representatives of the identified companies. We commenced our research by first reviewing the official websites of the found companies hoping to get their team members' details. Only Medtronic and Smiths Medical publicized the information regarding their team members, but none of them mentioned their purchase or engineering representatives. As a second approach, we utilized the business database LinkedIn using its advanced filter feature to find out the purchase and engineering representatives from each company. Unfortunately, the majority of the profiles that we encountered were either private or were related to other job titles like executives and managers that were not relevant to the asked information.

As a last resort, we looked for members with titles related to purchasing and engineering such as supply, sales, and design managers and similar. We reviewed each of the publicly available members on LinkedIn for the three companies and sorted out those that are responsible for purchase and engineering and hence listed the same.

Thermo Scientific

Research Strategy

Falcon, was found to be a Corning brand, so we were only able to find two manufacturers of Falcon tubes. For completion and to provide an alternative, we found that Thermo Scientific also produced plastic centrifuge tubes similar to Falcon tubes and included them in this research, as in our research it appeared that they would be a suitable alternative for Falcon tubes.

Not all the companies listed a purchasing and engineering representative, but did provide other contact information or points of sale that we included in this research. We attempted to search through any listed employees on the website or contact information provided on the website, but were unable to find enough to provide names and contact information. We then searched through the employees listed on LinkedIn for any whose role matched, but where unable to find any direct matches. We then widened our search for members with similar titles, such as sales and technical service, to find individuals who may be in a similar role within the company. We were unable to find any alternative for an engineering representative in Corning.

Falcon Tubes Distributors

Thomas Scientific, Fisher Scientific, and BD Biosciences represent three large distributors of Falcon tubes in the United States. All three companies have similar offerings available including varying sizes of conical centrifuge tubes and round-bottom test tubes in polypropylene and polystyrene. Images of the various products can be found in the attached document.

Thomas Scientific

Fisher Scientific

BD Biosciences

Research Strategy

After searching Thomas Scientific’s website, public employee databases such as Zoom Info, company review sites such as Glassdoor, job listing sites Indeed, Simply Hired, and LinkedIn, it became clear that Thomas Scientific does not an engineering representative position. After researching non-sales, technical positions with the company, Thomas Scientific’s Chief Technology Officer was listed as the closest match. The company does have a large purchasing department and Shasta Combest’s title directly matched the requested job title thus making her the logical choice to list for this position.
Fisher Scientific and BD Biosciences similarly do not employ engineering representatives. Both companies have Life Sciences Presidents on staff who oversee the scientific branches of each company.

Medical Gloves manufacturers

Some U.S. companies that manufacture surgical or medical gloves include Renco Corporation, Valumax International and Atlantic Safety Products. Their details have been provided below and in the attached document.

Renco Corporation

Valumax International

Atlantic Safety Products

Research Strategy

We were able to gather most of the requested information except the information regarding the purchasing representatives and engineering representatives of the identified companies. We started our research by looking through the companies' official websites to get their team members' details. Only Atlantic Safety Products publicized the information regarding its members, but has not mentioned its purchase or engineering representatives.

Next, we used LinkedIn's advanced filter feature to look for the purchase and engineering representatives from each company. Unfortunately, the majority of the profiles that we encountered were either private, or were related to other job titles like executives and managers that were not relevant.

As a last resort, we looked for members with titles related to purchasing and engineering such as sales, design and other similar titles. While we were able to find such a contact for Atlantic Safety Products, we were still not able to find any for the other two companies. For Renco Corporation, we were only able to find the contact information for the President and CEO of the company, Richard Renehan.
