What are the main interests of 8-12 year old kids from ARGENTINA? Where are they active on Youtube, Instagram, Facebook or other Social Media Channels? On which devices and at what time?

Hello, and thanks for your question about what the main interests are of Argentinian children aged between 8 and 12 years. I have found information regarding popular tv shows, musicians, athletes and sports of this age group in Argentina. In addition I have found that children in this country are not usually introduced to the internet and social media until the age of 10.8 years. Below you will find a deep dive into my research, along with all the details as to how I came to this conclusion.

OVERVIEW
I have searched extensively to find sources which answer your question. However I have to conclude that there is a lack of data surrounding this topic, and especially for the very specific age range you are interested in. After a thorough search I can confirm that I found no studies published recently that look into interests of Argentinian children. I suspect that if there are any, they are published in Spanish.

What I have found are a number of articles which describe activities and interests of the Argentinian youth, as well as how they are using the internet and social media. Two sources in particular that I found most useful for answering this question were the Unicef report, which gives a lot of details on internet and social media use, and the Nickelodeon kids choice Awards, which is the best source for understanding what is popular with children in Argentina.

FINDINGS
- INTERESTS
While I could not source any age specific research, I did find an article listing the winners of Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice awards in Argentina. Nickelodeon targets the "post millennial" generation, which is kids born after 2005, so 12 years and below which is roughly the age group you are interested in. Winners of the 2016 awards show us that the most popular TV series is Soy Luna, most popular international tv show is Liz and Maddie, most popular athlete is Juan Martin del Porto, international group is One Direction, and national artist Lali.

I also found that Baseball is becoming increasingly popular amongst the youth in Argentina. While soccer remains the most popular, the article also claims that sports such as rugby, field hockey and basketball are popular with kids and teenagers.

In addition to this, a Buenos Aires’ based Underground Culture Festival, "Ciudad Emergent", is claimed to be the "most anticipated yearly events for teens and 20-somethings." The festival features music, film, art, dance, fashion and stand-up comedy. This shows that teenagers in Argentina also have a strong interest in the arts.

Finally, I also found that Polo is a very popular sport in Argentina. In fact 9 of the top 10 players are from Argentina, and 15 of the top 20 are also. According to the BBC, players begin in their youth, they are in Junior School when they begin playing.

- INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA
A study carried out by Chidren's charity UNICEF gives a lot of insightful statistics surrounding children from Argentina's use of the internet and social media. For example, only 5% of adolescents had experience of using the internet before the age of 10. The average age of being introduced to the internet is 10.8 years, therefore most of your target group probably have no contact with the internet. Kids who are going online are mostly using a mobile phone to do so (89%), followed by desktop computers and notebooks. In addition to this, those who are using the internet are using it at least once a day (87%), with usage being more heavy with girls (51% claim to be online all the time) compared with boys (44%). Lastly, almost all teenagers in Argentina have a Facebook profile (95%).

In addition to this I found that social media use in Argentina is very heavy compared with other countries. On average a person in Argentina is spending 4.3 hours on social media. They tie second with Columbia out of all South American countries for internet user penetration, and social media has a 70% overall penetration in the country. Therefore of those children who are online they are likely to be heavy users who also have social media, as is backed up by the Unicef findings.

CONCLUSION
Overall, while I was not able to present any hard data regarding interests of those aged 8-12 years from Argentina, I have provided some useful insights about the topic. We know that those under 12 are interested in tv shows such as Soy Luna, and Liz and Maddie, and that they are interested in musicians such as Lali and One Direction. Sports such as baseball are becoming popular with this age group, and other sports such as soccer, field hockey, basketball rugby and polo have always been popular. In addition to this, kids from this region generally don't get introduced to the internet until they are almost 11 years old. However, when they do start using the internet their use is heavy and they are likely to be using social media also.
