Looking for key differences between https://coralogix.com/ and https://logz.io/
Hello! Thanks for your question about the key differences between Coralogix and Logz.io. The most useful sources I found to answer your question are the corporate websites for Coralogix and Logz.io. The short version is that even though both companies were founded in 2014, Logz.io has grown much more rapidly and it offers a product that is designed to be more inclusive in its ability to analyze system logs and to provide customers with comprehensive assessments. Other key differences are in pricing and in after-purchase help provided by the two companies. Below you will find a deep dive of my findings.
METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS
In conducting this review, we searched corporate websites, financial websites, customer reviews and industry/financial websites. We first evaluated basic structural differences in the two companies and then moved on to consider the differences in the products offered by Coralogix and Logz.io, as well as their pricing structures and the customer service that each provided. Links to the most relevant sites are found below.
DIFFERENCES IN COMPANY STRUCTURES
Coralogix and Logz.io are both relatively young companies; each was founded in 2014. Coralogix is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, while Logz.io is in Tel Aviv (with an office in New York, NY). The real structural differences and capabilities are seen in the funding available to each company. Coralogix began with a seed investment of $1 million and now has a total equity funding estimated to be $2.1 million. It currently has 9 employees, according to its LinkedIn page (Crunchbase also lists it as having no more than 10 employees). Although it was founded shortly after Coralogix, Logz.io is already funded at a higher level. It began with a $1.2 million investment and has quickly grown to the point that it now has an estimated $23.9 million in equity funding. It also has between 51-200 employees according to its LinkedIn page (although Crunchbase lists its employee level as between 11 and 50).
NATURE OF SERVICES OFFERED
Both Coralogix and Logz.io were created in order to address problems associated with rapid changes experienced in software applications. As Forbes noted in a recent article, IT has traditionally been divided between software developers and operations staff. When the division of responsibilities became too burdensome, companies created new positions that essentially fell into a new category called DevOps, the purpose of which has been to work towards seamless functioning of software programs in any given system. This was necessitated, in large part, by Google, because it essentially began the process of constantly offering software revisions, while simultaneously ensuring high-end customer service. Google's innovations created problems for other companies that were not able to maintain the same rapid-pace changes. Likewise, users were now faced with the need to constantly monitor multiple changes and interactions in their software applications. To keep users up to date with these changes users have relied upon the ability to analyze logs that tell them how their systems are operating. Companies such as Coralogix and Logz.io strive to supply users with the ability to address the needs of such users.
As Forbes explains, Logz.io serves customers' needs by providing what the company calls a "DevOps solution," that not only monitors applications running on a system, but also provides users with "business intelligence, compliance, and security." The latter aspect of the Logz.io product helps companies to detect potential security threats before they occur. Logz.io provides this service with an "Al-powered log analysis platform" that offers an "open source ELK Stack." Its technology (termed Cognitive Insights) uses both machine learning and Al algorithms that, in turn, assist DevOps engineers in identifying critical events that occur in the monitored system. In addition, Logz.io relies upon a cloud database that brings together real-time advice from experts across the globe. This crowdsourcing approach appears to be unique to Logz.io and results in the company's ability to provide its customers with a large knowledge base that can further detect critical events for the customer.
Coralogix is also focused upon log management. It describes its service as essentially realigning log records back to their original patterns, after which it seeks to find "connections between those patterns to form the baseline flows of each software individually." The purpose of this approach is to help the customer improve productivity. According to reviews on G2crowd, the end result is a simplified and streamlined process that enables the customer to better understand the information that is presented in their logs. Coralogix also integrates with multiple applications. Coralogix does not appear to take advantage of crowdsourcing.
In essence, therefore, Coralogix provides a more basic product that is centered on giving the customer an easy to understand analysis of the system under evaluation. This is markedly different from Logz.io, which employs crowdsourcing and also markets itself as being able to detect security vulnerabilities so that its customers can avoid associated problems in that realm.
PRICING
The pricing scheme also differs between the two companies. The most obvious difference is that Logz.io offers a free plan for up to 1 GB of data per day - Coralogix does not. Moving on from that, the pricing offered by Logz.io is segmented between what it calls its "Pro" and "Enterprise" plans. The former offers its customers protection for daily capacities up to 100 GB, while the latter is for larger systems that require between 100 GB and 15 TB of data analysis. Both plans allow the customer to retain data for up to 365 days (the free plan allows retention of up to 4 days). All plans are automatically scalable and have hosted ELK as a service, as well as log parsing, but only the paid plans have predictive fault detection. The price of the Pro and Enterprise Plans is not available on its website. Instead, the customer needs to contact the company for pricing.
Coralogix' pricing, like Logz.io, is based upon the user volume and retention rate. But unlike Logz.io, Coralogix does not offer any plans. And, as mentioned above, it has no free plan. Instead, the customer can choose between the volume desired and then customize the retention rate, after which a price is quoted. In general, pricing is very transparent on the Coralogix website. Prices range from $10/month to $1,800/month. It should also be mentioned that Logz.io offers a daily capacity of up to 100 GB under its Pro plan, whereas Coralogix considers anything above 20 GB to be its Enterprise solution.
USER ASSISTANCE
Customers of these two companies can expect different support. Coralogix provides its customers with a series of comprehensive video tutorials that assist in learning its product. The reviews on G2Crowd give one the impression that these tutorials are sufficient. And we also found one review that spoke highly of Coralogix' customer service. Beyond that, however, the customer must depend upon the video tutorials or contact customer service directly. Perhaps this is to be expected, given that the Coralogix product offering does not seem to be as sophisticated as that of Logz.io. Finally, it should be noted that contacting the company is only possible via online chat or by means of submitting a contact request form. No telephone numbers are available for direct contact.
Customers of Logz.io are presented with a much larger assortment of product assistance. Logz.io customers can choose between a blog, tutorials, videos, webinars and other guides - all of which appear to be quite extensive. It should be noted that customer reviews mention that the product is somewhat complex, so it may well be that the extensive help guides are necessary. Customers who wish, to contact Logz.io can do so through online chat (as with Coralogix), but they also have the option of calling the company's customer service department in New York. The mailing address is also provided on the company's website.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, the key differences between the two companies are not only their size, but the extent of services provided by Logz.io when compared with Coralogix. The Logz.io platform is designed to be more comprehensive in not only providing baseline log analysis, but also identification of security vulnerabilities present in the customers' systems.
