How long did it take subscription services (like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, ClassPass) to reach 1 million users? How long did it take big tech companies (Twitter, FB, etc) to reach 1 million users? Please send in PowerPoint or chart format

Spotify took only five months to reach one million users while Instagram took only 2.5 months to reach one million downloads/users. A summary of the time taken for Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, ClassPass, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest to reach one million users or other similar metric has been provided on the attached PowerPoint. The information are presented in a simple table and column chart as no specific instructions have been provided. Please note that separate information regarding free and paid users are not available for every company/service. Sources older than two years have been utilized and are still relevant as every company hit the one million users milestone more than two years ago. Below, I would provide an outline of the time taken by each company to reach the one million users milestone.

NETFLIX

Netflix started in 1997 but launched its paid subscription service only in September 1999. It surpassed one million subscribers in February 2003, three years and five months after its paid subscription service was launched.

HULU

Hulu started as a free service and launched its paid subscription service in November 2010. The number of paying subscribers reached one million subscribers in September 2011, ten months after its paid subscription service was launched.

SPOTIFY

Spotify was launched in October 2008 and started as a paid subscription service. The number of users reached one million users in March 2009, five months its service was launched.

CLASSPASS

ClassPass was launched in June 2013. An extensive search revealed that the total number of users or membership figures were not publicly available. However, it was known that ClassPass had facilitated one million class reservations in 2014. Thus we could estimate that it hit the milestone after one year as ClassPass had facilitated only 50,000 class reservations in 2013.

TWITTER

Twitter was launched in July 2006. The number of users reached one million users nearly 24 months after it was launched. Thus we could estimate that it hit the milestone in July 2008.

FACEBOOK

Facebook was launched in February 2004. The number of users reached one million users in ten months. Thus we could estimate that it hit the milestone in December 2004.

INSTAGRAM

Instagram was launched in October 2010. The app was downloaded by one million people within 2.5 months. Thus we could estimate that it hit the milestone in December 2010.

PINTEREST

Pinterest was launched in November 2009. It reached one million unique visitors 20 months after it was launch. Thus we could estimate that it hit the milestone in July 2011.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the above companies took between 2.5 months (Instagram) to three years and five months (Netflix) to reach the one million users milestone.
