Licensing Contacts: Sports Middle East

Some professional and international sports teams in the Middle East are Al Duhail Sports Club (Qatar), APOEL Nicosia (Cyprus), Maccabi Tel Aviv FC (Israel), Persepolis FC (Iran), Zamalek SC (Egypt), and more. While the information on the appropriate licensing contact at the Al Khor Sports Club was publicly available, the same information for all other sports teams could not be located. More information on the topic has been presented in the attached spreadsheet, and some findings of the research have been summarized below.

2. APOEL NICOSIA (CYPRUS)

3. MACCABI TEL AVIV FC (ISRAEL)

4. PERSEPOLIS FC (IRAN)

5. ZAMALEK SC (EGYPT)

6. AL KHOR SPORTS CLUB (QATAR)

7. FC SHABAB AL-AHLI (DUBAI)

8. ESTEGHLAL FC (IRAN)

9. AL-AIN FC (UAE)

RESEARCH STRATEGY

We started the research by searching for professional sports teams in the Middle East across multiple databases, including Transfer Market, Football Database, ICC, World Rugby, and more. We were able to locate the teams relevant to our research from these databases. However, the sources did not provide information specific to the licensing contact at the respective teams. We then looked through the official websites of the sports teams that we had selected. We searched for their management and organizational structure to find the information on the licensing contact. The websites of only four teams have pages specific to their management structure. However, we found that only Al Khor Sports Club has publicly stated its sponsorship information. Therefore, for all the other teams, we have presented some management-related information.

Lastly, we conducted a press search across the sports and business websites focused on the Middle East to find any marketing or sponsorship-related news. Such databases included Gulf News, Arabian Business, and more. We hoped to find the names of the sponsorship or licensing contact for the teams from such news. We were able to find information on the announcement of the sponsorship deals and signings. However, no information on the licensing contact was found. We also tried searching for any partnership deals between retail brands and the sports teams. We found that most of the teams have partnerships with sports brands, banks, and other companies. However, we did not find information on how the partnerships started and who the involved people were. Due to the lack of information, we have filled the respective cells in the attached spreadsheet with 'N/A.'
