Who are the largest providers of solutions that control the physical access to corporate buildings (typically using personal badges)?
Introduction
According to a Kisi list of the best access control system (ACS) providers for businesses, the top-ten largest providers of access control services globally by revenue are: the ASSA ABLOY Group, Stanley Convergent Security Solutions, HID, Avigilon, SALTO Systems, Suprema, DKS Doorking, Bay Alarm, Bosch Security Systems, and Keri Systems.
Though the majority of these companies are located in the United States, others have their headquarters in Canada, Spain, Sweden, Germany and the Republic of Korea. The ACS provider with the highest turnover, ASSA ABLOY Group, is based in Sweden.
These companies all provide a variety of different, cutting-edge access control systems, including Internet-Protocol Systems, which comprise video management and mobile phone apps, Control Panel Systems, which provide customizable ID badges and credentials, and Mobile Access Credentials, which allow authorized personnel to access specific areas via their mobile phones. Other services include door and car park access hardware and corresponding software, and alarm systems.
Access control systems are used across a variety of different businesses, and especially those which involve the storage or use of confidential information such as the health and education sectors. The aim of access control systems is to make companies, their staff and information systems more secure by preventing access to unauthorized visitors and providing employers with greater ability to manage employees’ access to different spaces within the workplace.
Top-Ten largest providers
The largest ACS providers were sourced from a list of the twenty best ACS brands for businesses, provided by the ACS company Kisi, which we assumed to be representative of the most competitive businesses in the industry.
Kisi states that its selection criteria for this list was based on a review of the services provided by each company, and particularly the quality of the technology and system type used; the availability of reports to access visitor statistics and time-tracking; installation requirements, and the availability of customer support and training.
We in turn identified the largest ACS providers from Kisi's list based on annual and estimated annual revenue. The top-ten largest ACS providers are ranked below, from largest to smallest.
The headquarters of these companies are based in different locations across the globe, from the US (Stanley Security Solutions, HID, DKS Doorking, Bay Alarm, Keri Systems) and Canada (Avigilon), to The Republic of Korea (Suprema), Germany (Bosch), Sweden (ASSA ABLOY Group), and Spain (SALTO Systems).
Conclusion
In summary, the Access Control Systems industry is highly profitable, with all the top-ten largest providers drawing an income of more than ten million dollars annually. In the case of the three largest companies, two ACS providers have an annual turnover reaching hundreds of millions of dollars, while the top company's sales, the ASSA ABLOY Group, run into billions of dollars.
Though the United States clearly has a monopoly in terms of being home to at least five out of the ten largest ACS providers, the remaining fifty percent are scattered across different locations in the world. The most profitable ACS company is located in Sweden (the ASSA ABLOY Group), the fourth largest in Canada (Avigilon) and the fifth in Spain (SALTO Systems).
