What are the largest "clean beauty" companies (public or private) by revenue?

Hello! Thank you for your request to provide a list of the largest clean beauty companies based on revenue. Because no precompiled lists existed, I conducted a thorough review of industry reports, trusted media sites, and corporate websites to obtain all the requested information. In short, Derma E, Juice Beauty, and Shea Moisture are the largest clean beauty companies according to available and estimated revenues. I’ve identified 16 of the largest clean beauty companies. More information about my research and findings are listed below.

METHODOLOGY
There are a number of companies in the “clean beauty” space and the products they create are multi-varied. Still, I was able to identify some of the largest clean beauty companies. First, I searched for a precompiled list from industry reports and market research identifying the top clean beauty companies. However, no such list existed. This may have a lot to do with the lack of clarity in several of the terms that are prominent in the space (e.g., green beauty, organic beauty, and natural beauty). For the purpose of this request, I’ve identified that “clean beauty” refers to companies that sell products that are “non-toxic and not harmful” regardless of whether they are natural or organic products. Additionally, these companies can include skin care, hair care, and/or cosmetics. Because the companies you identified were in the broader “clean beauty” space (Beautycounter) and the slightly less broad “natural beauty” space (The Detox Market), I’ve added companies that fall under the “clean beauty” umbrella.

The next thing I did was review articles and reports in the clean beauty arena to glean insights into the major players in this market. I identified several companies this way. To find more competitive clean beauty companies, I also reviewed investor databases for each of the respective company’s competitors. Then, I listed the companies, gathered any actual or estimated revenues for each, and ordered them based on the top revenues. Please note that there are some companies that may be large and in the clean beauty arena (e.g., Alba Botanica) but due to a lack of revenue data, I have not added them to this “largest” list. I also removed any companies (e.g., Origins) that made this list of “greenwashing” companies. I’ve also removed extremely popular clean beauty brands, like Burt’s Bees, as these companies are subsidiaries and I wanted to stay within the marketplace side of the companies listed.

The last thing I want to let you know is that I’ve extended this list to include 16 companies because I had already compiled the data, but most importantly, I wanted you to see where The Detox Company and Beautycounter landed in the list of clean beauty companies.
