Research Strategy

We managed to get additional insights into the health, wellness, and beauty industry in the US from published market reports and other industry publications. However, although these reports listed the key players in the industry, they lacked data on the market share of the various players.

Next, we searched for any annual reports published by the respective companies. However, all these companies are private companies and are not obligated to publish their annual reports. We searched the reports on the companies' websites as well as on market research websites like Market Watch, Forbes, and Euronometer, among others.

Finally, we searched review websites like Indeed and Glassdoor for the market share. These sites only gave brief information about the companies and their products. In addition, review websites listed competitors of the respective companies. Since we could not get the market share, we used other metrics that show their position in the industry. These include industry experience, experience in a certain field and number of patents.

Research Strategy

To find Anthropologie’s leading products/experiences in the categories of health, wellness, and beauty in Canada and the US, we visited Anthropologie’s online shop and then selected the wellness, beauty, and health section for each category. We then filtered our product search on the website by "Ratings: High to Low" in each category and then selected applicable products marked "top rated" based on customer reviews. We then reported the top-rated products as the company's leading products in each category. However, we couldn't filter by country and as the option is not available on the company's website and the "top rated" ratings weren't specific to any country.

Given that the company's major market is in the US with only three of its 227 stores in Canada, we can reasonably assume that the top-rated product rating above applies mostly to the US. Hence, we proceeded to search further for leading products in the various categories for Canada.

We searched media and industry sources such as Forbes, Huffington Post Canada, Canadian Business, Business Insider, and Wall Street Journal, and Canadian Business Journal for any data or interview or review of Anthropologie's offerings in Canada where top products in Canada may have been mentioned. However, most of the reports we found were related to the company's clothing line.

We also searched Amazon Canada for Anthropologie’s products in order to find those with the highest number of reviews in the various categories. Although we found a couple of Anthropologie’s products on Amazon Canada, the products were mostly bedding and clothing.

During our research, we found that Anthropologie has a partnership with Nordstrom, which has a significant presence in Canada. Hence, we searched Nordstrom's website for Anthropologie’s products that are highly rated. Although we were able to find a couple of such products in the beauty and wellness category, we were unable to filter our product search by country.

We also attempted to find the company's annual filing in order to see if the top selling products in Canada would be mentioned or listed. However, Anthropologie is a private company that doesn't provide a detailed annual report. We were only able to find financial filing by Anthropologie’s parent company, Urban Outfitters, that provided the company's financials, but data on leading products was unavailable.

Hence, we have reported the top-rated products in each category extracted from the company's website as the top-rated products in both Canada and the US.
