In short, an estimated 11,017 - 17,627 job interviews are conducted each day in London, UK. On average, 5-8 interviews are conducted to fill each job vacancy, and it takes 48 days for an open position to be filled in the UK. Below, you will find the results of my research, along with my research methodology.
METHODOLOGY
I carefully read through the previous response you received to glean any relevant datasets to use in my research. I will use the same data on the number of job vacancies in the UK, as outlined in the Office for National Statistics source. Since no precompiled data was available to answer your question, I searched for statistics that would allow me to triangulate the data requested. To ensure I was accommodating all types of jobs and levels of education, I searched for data related to the typical number of interviews conducted to fill any type of position, as well as the time frame for hiring an employee.
FINDINGS
In the UK, it takes an average of 48 days to fill a job vacancy. According to TPP Recruitment, an employment consultancy firm in the UK, the ideal HR manager conducts between 5 and 8 total interviews to fill a position, interviewing 3-5 candidates during the first round and 2-3 during the second round of interviews.
According to the UK Office for National Statistics, there were 748,000 job vacancies in the UK from September - November 2016. As noted in the previous researcher's response, London makes up approximately 14.14% of the UK job market, therefore we can assume there were approximately 105,767 job vacancies in London during the aforementioned time frame.
Assuming HR managers always conduct the recommended 5-8 interviews per job opening, 105,767 job vacancies would require between 528,835 (105,767 x 5) and 846,136 (105,767 x 8) interviews to fill those positions. If the average hiring cycle takes 48 days, that would amount to between 11,017 (528,835/48) and 17,627 (846,136/48) per day.
BY INDUSTRY
I have calculated the number of jobs for London in each category, based on the aforementioned 14.14% figure (rounding to the nearest whole number) during the September-November 2016 quarter. I multiplied each category total by 5 and 8 to get the total number of interviews conducted per job opening. Then, I divided by 48 to accommodate the typical hiring cycle to get the number of interviews per day.
