Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 3-36

Adam Siegel and Alexander Roberts do not have a birthday listed. Aaron Silverman, Abraham Conlon, Alain Rondelli, Alan Wong, Alessandro Stratta, and Alex Lee did not have birthdays listed but had ages that were used to estimate a birth year. The information has been updated on the attached spreadsheet for each chef.
In order to complete the spreadsheet, I used the James Beard search tool to find the region and whether the chef was a winner or nominee for each year listed on the spreadsheet. I then searched for birthdays, genders and race through restaurant or chef profiles, news articles or chef websites. For the chefs I was unable to locate a birth date or birth year for, I put an 'N/A' in the box. Some chefs did not have dates or years listed but listed the chef's age at the time of the article. I used the date of the article and listed age to estimate the chef's year of birth. If a race was not listed, I used attached photographs to determine race. The links where the information was located are listed in the sources' column for each chef.

The spreadsheet has been update for rows 3-31 with the region, nominee or winner, age, gender, race and sources filled in for each chef. The spreadsheet can be accessed here.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 125-158

I have populated rows 125 to 158 of the "Beard Awards 2" tab of the attached spreadsheet. Below you will find the methodology I used to obtain the information.

METHODOLOGY

I have outlined the method used to find each detail.
—Region and Nominee/Winner: As given on the James Beard website.
—Age: For some individuals, the birth date or year of birth was found explicitly mentioned in articles. In other cases, I estimated the present age on the basis of age mentioned in articles older than a year and used that information to determine the year of birth. However, for a few chefs, the year of birth or age was not found on professional networks/ databases or media articles. Wherever this is the case, the respective cells have been marked as N/A.
—Gender: As mentioned in articles and by visual interpretation of the photograph. —Race: Race was determined by a combination of the name; place of birth and upbringing; and visual interpretation of the individual's photograph.

CONCLUSION

All required details have been entered in rows 125-158 of the "Beard Awards 2" tab of the attached spreadsheet.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 159-202

The requested details have been incorporated into the attached spreadsheet.

Catherine Whims, Chris Shepherd, Christian Bertrand, Christine Keff, Christopher Gross, and Christopher Hastings do not have birthdays listed. However, a rough estimate has been included as to when they were born (or how old they are) by using the earliest years mentioned in their interviews and/or biographies.

Celina Tio, Charles Dale, Chris Bianco, and Christopher Israel did not have birthdays listed but their ages mentioned in articles were used to estimate their birth years. The information has been updated on the attached spreadsheet for each chef.
In order to complete the spreadsheet, I searched for birthdays, genders, and race through restaurant or chef profiles, biographies, news articles, or chef websites. For the chefs that I was unable to locate a birth date or birth year for, I have put 'Undisclosed' in the respective cells.

The race for most of the chefs is not listed, however, I have included their birthplace or places they were brought up in in the respective cells as an alternative. Race was only listed for Cathal Armstrong, Charles Palmer, Charlie Trotter, and Christopher Hastings. Only 3 chefs — out of the 15 — were female, while the rest of them were male. The links used for the location of information are listed in the 'Sources' column for each chef.

The spreadsheet has been updated for rows 159-202 with the age, gender, race, and sources filled in for each chef. The spreadsheet can be accessed here.

Some chefs did not have dates or years listed but listed the chef's age at the time the article was written. I used the date of the article and age listed for the chef to estimate the chef's year of birth. If a race was not listed, I used attached photographs to determine race unless there was no photograph listed. In this case I entered 'undisclosed' as instructed.

The spreadsheet has been update with the chef information for rows 203-253, columns E-H. The age, gender, race, and sources have been filled in for each entry. The complete details of my research findings can be found in the attached spreadsheet.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 254-283

Rows 254-283, columns E-H of the Beard Awards 2 tab of the attached spreadsheet have been completed. The date or year of birth for every chef except Dan Kluger and David Israelow have been provided on the spreadsheet. There are only male chefs on the list, and David Chang is the only Asian (non-Caucasian) chef on the list. Please note that the information for gender was determined by examining the chef’s images and his name. Only the race for Dan Barber, Daniel Boulud, and David Chang was mentioned in biographies or articles published online. The race for the other chefs was determined by examining their images. Below, I will provide the findings of this research.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 284-315

In the attached spreadsheet (rows 284-315), columns E, F, and G are complete with age, gender and race details, including links to the sources of the information in column H. For a majority of the chefs, their year of birth, gender and race is provided, however, in some cases where the information is not found in the public domain, “Unknown” has been entered into the specific cells. While not all biographies provided all the requested details, various sources such as blogs, news articles, interviews, and so on, were used to estimate the year of birth (i.e., by examining the publication date of the article and using the age provided on the article to calculate the correct year of birth). In addition, individual photos were used to assist in determining race where such information was unavailable. Therefore, it is important to note that the race of the chef is annotated based on the subjective perception of appearance from the photos found in the provided sources. The attached spreadsheet with further details is found here.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 316-363

To complete this request, we sourced information individually for each chef listed in rows 316-363 in order to fill columns E-H. However, we expanded our research scope beyond Wonder's standard scope of two years to research for credible sources to fill the columns for age and race. Where age and/or race of a chef could not be sourced, we added the closest approximation, or filled the respective column with 'undisclosed.' For some chefs in this request, after extensively researching their published biographies, we couldn't source their ages, hence, we used the stated age on a credible article and subtracted same from the date of publication of the article to find the year of birth were applicable. In addition, individual photos were used to assist in determining race where such information was unavailable. Therefore, it is important to note that the race of the chef is annotated based on the subjective perception of appearance from the photos found in the provided sources.

As requested, the spreadsheet has been updated with each of the chef information for rows 316-363, columns E-H. Their respective age, gender, race, and sources have been filled in for each entry. Please find complete details of our research findings in the attached spreadsheet.

Beard Awards Chef Details Rows 364-409

Rows 364 through 409 have been filled in on the James Beard Award Winner shared spreadsheet. I also listed the information below for your convenience.

Please note that in most cases, I could not find clear confirmation of race. However, I was able to find pictures in every case, leading to my assumption that all chefs on the list identify as white. When available, I included the chef's country of descent to add more understand regarding race, especially since some Spanish chefs may identify as Hispanic rather than white.

Please also note that in some cases, the birth date of the chef was not explicitly stated. In these cases, I looked for sources which stated the age of the chef and used the publish date of the source to determine the age. However, in this case, the date is within 1 year, since without the exact birth date, we cannot know if the publish date is before or after the chef's birthday for the year.

Without further ado, here is the list:

Rows 364-368: Frank Stitt is a Caucasian male born on 08/04/1954.
